Feds arrest suspect in ricin-positive letters sent to Obama, senator
Source: NBC
Federal agents on Wednesday arrested a suspect in the mailing of letters to President Barack Obama and a U.S. senator that initially tested positive for the poison ricin. The suspect was identified as Kenneth Curtis of Tupelo, Miss., federal officials told NBC News.
Both letters carried an identical closing statement, according to an FBI bulletin obtained by NBC News on Wednesday. According to the FBI bulletin, both letters, postmarked April 8, 2013 out of Memphis, Tenn., included an identical phrase, "to see a wrong and not expose it, is to become a silent partner to its continuance."
In addition, both letters are signed: "I am KC and I approve this message." The letter to Obama was intercepted at an off-site White House mail facility and was being tested further, the FBI said. A federal law enforcement official said that the letter was very similar to one addressed to Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss.
Two federal officials said late Wednesday that an initial laboratory test on the material in the letters was inconclusive. The test shows some level of ricin, they said, but the potency is uncertain. They cannot tell whether the material is actually harmful or not. So more tests have been ordered.

(22,057 posts)Senator Wicker voted to allow the gun bill to come for a vote (he voted FOR the filibuster today however). That initial vote though was probably enough to push a nutcase over the edge.

(37,540 posts)This is Ken Curtis, DUMBASS! I already know his flawed political ideologies without having to read them. He's all that is wrong with our politics today. Dumbass votes against his best interests.

(2,935 posts)I heard it was reported that Kenneth Curtis was a regular crank letter writer to Congress. And then, to sign them "I'm KC, and I approve this message"? How long do you think it took even the most dim bulb FBI agent to put 2+2 together and compare the handwriting on the letters he wrote in the past to the ricin letters?
He should have saved himself the trouble of 2 possible life sentences by just voting against Wicker in the next Senate election. Hate to say it, because I live in this state, but his stupidity only reinforces the stereotype that we are stupid, backwards, redneck and inbred down heah!!

(135,425 posts)People who "know" someone who works on the Hill get around that whole business by sending stuff to their home address. It's not terribly "legal" but people do it all the time, if you need to get paperwork to someone in a hurry. Otherwise it is a slow process. If you can e-mail stuff, that's the best way to go.

Lots of beautiful architecture, historic homes, fine gardens and good restaurants scattered among the less likeable areas.
