North Korea vows 'sledge-hammer blows' of retaliation over protests in South

Source: NBC

North Korea issued new threats against South Korea on Tuesday, vowing "sledge-hammer blows" of retaliation if South Korea did not apologize for anti-North Korean protests the previous day when the North was celebrating the birth of its founding leader.

On Monday, the North dropped its shrill threats against the United States and South Korea as it celebrated the 101st anniversary of the birth of its first leader, Kim Il-Sung, raising hopes for an easing of tension in a region that has for weeks seemed on the verge of conflict.

But the North's KCNA news agency said on Tuesday the North Korean army had issued an ultimatum to the South after rallies in the South on Monday at which portraits of North Korea's leaders were burned.

"Our retaliatory action will start without any notice from now," KCNA reported, citing military leaders of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), as North Korea is officially known.

ROK IS still a democracy - and if the US really want to go that way - it could be a domino effect where even close allies are starting to turn their back on the US... Remember, the US is at least as inter-connected to her allies - as the allies is inter-connected to US. And should we not give the new South Korean President the benefit of the doubt - even as she have a father who was a dictator - by the way - installed by the US....

And by the way - if war was to break out - the uS would not be alone - as most of the UN would possible be on the US side - as the armistice between the two Korean states, still are in effect - and states pretty clearly, that if DKPR is to start a new war - the whole of UN is there to defend ROK. Or at least parts of the UN..

Judge her by what she does, not by what here father did. You claim to be a progressive, yet you believe that the children are guilty of the crimes of their parents.

Not much they really can do other than treating the south Korea, for a war the DKPR have no resources to fight - or win for that matter...

But of course, they are insulted by it - as the founder of the DKPR is seen as godlike in DKPR "theology"...

The best South Korea can do, is to just look the other way - and make a statement that if DKPR really want to do business, they have to act in a way the South want - or the world like... That say, no more treat about wars...

There is usually a strong contingent of people saying how it's wrong to insult Islam and kick the hornets nest. Why don't these protesters get the same reaction? This is more of an observation, not me saying that the South Koreans don't have the right to protest as they did.
