Right-Wing Media Publish Name, Address, Pictures Of Saudi National Who Witnessed Boston Bombings
Source: Media Matters
By the next afternoon, Fox News was reporting that "a federal law enforcement official is confirming... that Saudi man, the college student who was described as a person of interest in the Boston bombings, has now been ruled out as a suspect in this bombing."
But in the interim, the right-wing media -- led by popular conservative blogger Jim Hoft -- swallowed the initial Post report and began posting as much personal information about the man as they could discover.
On the night of the bombings, Hoft posted the report of the "Internet activist Jester" that a federal search warrant was being executed at an apartment building in Revere, Massachusetts, later revealed to be the Saudi national's apartment. Reporting on the same search later that night, Fox News host Greta Van Susteren said, "I'm not going to give you the address in case for some reason it's a bad search." But Hoft had no such compunction, publishing the address, the name of the building, and a link to a full list of the building's residents via addresses.com. Hoft also linked to a Free Republic reader's comment that the building was identified in reviews as what the reader termed a "Section 8 hellhole."
By the following morning, Hoft dialed down slightly, calling the Saudi national a "person of interest" in the case, rather than a suspect. But he still published the person's name and a series of photos that he said came from the Facebook page of someone with the same name (including one picture of a young man jumping in front of Cinderella's Castle in Disney World's Magic Kingdom theme park). Hoft cited Free Republic and Townhall as the source for the man's name. According to Wonkette, "the Freeper page is actually just a link to the Townhall article... which doesn't actually include the guy's name (We'll assume it's been scrubbed? Google cache didn't appear to have an older version)." Hoft later updated the post to acknowledge that Fox has reported the man was not a suspect.

How the heck does some blogger get a hold of this kind of information? That is a security problem. They need to find out what group fox is using to get information leaks about federal warrents.

Hacktivist collective Anonymous and - unusually - some of its enemies have all turned their ire against government websites, propaganda outlets and social media profiles linked to the North Korean regime.
DDoS attacks were launched on Nork government websites and Air Koryo, the country's airline, after North Korea threatened to restart a mothballed nuclear reactor as part of an escalation in tensions that last week led to North Korea issuing a statement of war against South Korea. Notorious US patriot hacker "th3j35t3r" ("the Jester" claimed responsibility for the attack against Air Koryo and other sites (here and here), so it's not just elements of Anonymous that are involved in the attacks but also one of its principal antagonists in cyberspace. . . .
The Jester and Anonymous are arch-enemies over issues such as WikiLeaks but have very occasionally found common ground in the past as with attacks against the Westboro Baptist Church.
"Next we'll be hearing how Anonymous operators are hiding under Kim's desk & unplugging his ethernet cable too?" th3j35t3r commented sarcastically about the latest attacks, linking to a possibly photo-shopped image.

(12,977 posts)The Jester (also known by the leetspeak handle th3j35t3r) is a computer vigilante who describes himself as grey hat "hacktivist." He claims to be responsible for attacks on WikiLeaks, 4chan, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and Islamist websites. He claims to be acting out of American patriotism. . . .
The Jester first appeared on Twitter where he announced his attack on the Taliban website alemarah.info on January 1, 2010. On June 26, 2010 he established his WordPress blog "Jester's Court". The Jester also communicates via his IRC channel #jester and cautions these are the only three authentic methods of communication from him: "As per usual, because of the large amount of imposters trying to pass themselves off as me I will only speak in THREE places, here via this blog, my twitter and the i2p IRC network outlined above where my nick (th3j35t3r) is registered to myself. If you see a jester anywhere else its not me."
Military service
The Jester had stated that he was a former soldier and had served in Afghanistan and elsewhere. A former defense operative claimed that The Jester was a former military contractor involved in US Special Operations Command projects.[8] On April 10, 2012, The Jester gave a live chat interview to a class of Computer Science students at the University of Southern Maine where he confirmed his military service and stated he served four "operational tours".

(22,651 posts)I think Hoft/fox? has a lot of explaining to do how they got knowledge of a pending federal warrent. Someone with access leaked that info. pending warrents are not public knowledge ever, are they?

(12,977 posts)The search itself was no secret. It was covered live by local TV, other building residents were interviewed, and so forth.
The Jester's first tweet on the matter was "364 Ocean Ave, Revere MA - FBI, Homeland Security, ICE, State Police and Bomb squad just made entry to 5th floor apt. Unclear if connected."

So as far as I know, he was just watching events on television and knew it had to be a federal search warrant if the FBI and Homeland Security were involved. And Hoft got it from him.
Wait Wut
(8,492 posts)Shit. I hope he goes into hiding. There is nothing they can say to take it all back. They've already let loose their damned wolves. Their little pea brains will assume that the denial that he was involved is a conspiracy and the 'vigilante' in them will seek 'justice' for people they don't give a rats ass about anyway.
I'm disgusted with 'journalists'. All of them. Every single one of them last nite infuriated me.
