On the one-year anniversary of her son's arrest, George Zimmerman's mother released a letter to the public bemoaning the justice system and criticizing the media for perpetuating a "false narrative."

Zimmerman was taken into custody April 11 last year and charged with second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in Sanford. His family went into hiding after the story broke.

Gladys Zimmerman's two-page letter was released through the Twitter account of her son Robert Zimmerman Jr., who has been the family's spokesman.

She dubbed Zimmerman's arrest as the day "the justice system failed us as Americans" saying her son was put in handcuffs to placate a public manipulated by the lawyer for Trayvon Martin's family, Benjamin Crump.

Zimmerman, his family and his first lawyer went on the media tour making false claims about what happened.

The biggest lie they told was that George's nose was broken.

The physician report shows the nose to be "likely broken" and recommended George go to the ENT for x-rays. The report notes George refused.

There is no evidence he suffered a broken nose, but all three above went on TV and stated it as fact.

However, the video shows a Zimmerman who appears unharmed and casual. At a minimum, it seems to contradict accounts that he was a bloody mess at the scene. That would put particular importance on the testimony of the paramedics and officers at the scene.

No elevated heart rate, no increase in blood pressure, nothing to indicate he had been in a "savage" fight.

30 minutes later he's seen joking with police officers at the station on video.

Now compare that to the guy who murdered his daughter's attacker. He was an emotional and mental wreck even though he was in the right.

For the Zimmerman family to allege that the justice system doesn’t work, simply because they are unhappy their son was arrested in the first place, is disingenuous and disrespectful to the very system that is currently affording him every available opportunity to defend himself. The arrest of an admitted killer is not a violation of due process, it is due process. Most will agree that no one has been given greater consideration by the justice system for killing an unarmed child, than George Zimmerman.
