Louisiana Senate 2014: Bill Cassidy to challenge Mary Landrieu

Source: Politico

Rep. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) will announce a run for a U.S. Senate seat on Wednesday, sources confirmed to POLITICO.

The impending announcement that he will challenge Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu, first reported by The Associated Press, will take place in a video. Landrieu has been identified as a moderate Democrat that Republicans plan to target in 2014.

Cassidy, a doctor from Baton Rouge who was previously in the state Senate, will then launch an announcement tour in the state, a source also confirmed.

Joel DiGrado, who was Sen. David Vitter’s communication director during his 2010 campaign and was deputy state director for the Rick Santorum 2012 primary campaign, will be managing Cassidy’s campaign, a source with knowledge confirmed.

Besides, what's the difference between a Republican and a DINO? Not much.

Nothing to lose and everything to gain by trying to get someone that gives a fuck about the People.

I suppose it beats horrible on most things but she's definitely a corporate lapdog. It would be nice if we could do better.

I'm sure I can cherry pick a list of votes to make her out to be as bad as any Republican.

...and a Republican who votes against me 100% of the time....

I'll go with the Democrat.

I'm engaged in politics to accomplish things, not to feel righteous about my principles.

6. A Great Deal To Lose

There is a great deal to lose by trying to find out if a progressive can win statewide in Louisiana. You may not like Senator Landrieu, but because she carries the title Democrat she helps the Democrats stay in control. That puts Democrats in control of all the committees in the Senate and makes Senator Harry Reid Majority Leader. You do not have to like Senator Reid, but his control of the Senate can allow certain things to come to the floor and prevent other things from coming to the floor.

If Landrieu and a few other moderate Democrats, that some do not like, lose, control of the Senate will switch to the Republican Party. That would mean Senator Mitch McConnell would become Senate Majority Leader and Republicans will become chairmen of all the committees.

Landrieu may have her problems, but she will be less of a problems to getting President Obama's policies passed than Senator Mitch McConnell. In addition, it is probably better to have Senator Landrieu as a Senate subcommittee or committee chairman than many of the Senate Republicans.
