Half of the article was about someone experiencing "flu like symptoms" and it never stated the specific charges. I mean for a local "on the scene" paper they could have done alot better. The Reuter's article was much more informative. What happened to DU's spell checker?

Daniels said in a statement his appointment could be moot if the courts lesson White's felony to a misdemeanor, allowing White to return to office.

Had he been required to show an ID, it would have confirmed that he is... himself. I admit I don't know much of the details beyond those in the article, but I fail to see how voter ID would have had any effect in this case. The only possible scenario I can imagine is that he changed the address on his DL >>AND<< the poll worker noticed the different address. Otherwise he is who he clained to be.

Even though IN law dictates that he must leave, Republican governor Mitch Daniels is "waiting to appoint a replacement" until he sees if the judge reduces the convictions to misdemeaners.

Of course he isn't going to do this because the violations were so blatent. What Daniels is doing is stalling for time because the judge says he should be replaced by the Democrat he narrowly defeated in 2010. For now Daniels has named the Republican SofS to take his place temporarily.

Mitch Daniels cannot be allowed to pull off this classic GOP bait & switch.

To say he narrowly defeated the Democrat is very misleading. Indiana elected the scum bag like 60% to 30%, it was a landslide like many Repukes victories were in 2010. Let's just hope Vop will be in the position by the end of the February!

In 2010, Indiana Republicans could have nominated a dirty sock for Secretary of State and the sock still would have carried the state by a 2-1 margin. There was a huge teabagger turnout, and all this stuff about White was *known* before the election. Even the Indy Star, which reliably endorses Republicans, endorsed Vop Osili over White.

Daniels asked White to resign a long time ago, I presume mainly so he could be sure he could hand-pick the new SOS. White is not only in trouble with the law, he's also ticked off his party's leadership by insisting on going down swinging.

I just assumed that was close statewide.
Now that I think about it, Indiana probably didn't have more that a few million votes total.

Still, I thought White committed fraud during that very election, and his Democratic opponent should have won.

Former Congresscritter John Hostettler tries to board a plane w/a loaded Glock in his bag, Should've been a Felony, plea-bargained down to some bullshit misdemeanor with "community service" so he wouldn't lose his seat in congress. I believe the same thing happened to Rand Paul.

If this had been thee or me, we'd be getting traded back and forth for pack of smokes by now.

What really bothers me about this whole stinking mess is that the majority of Hoosiers are Just Jake with having a convicted criminal as Sec. of State. You see, he's a ReTHUGlican, and it's OK.

Karl Rove said he wanted his "Permanent Majority", and they're sure busting a gut to get it by hook or crook. In White's case, by Crook...
