Mursi Warning Stirs Fears In Egypt Opposition

(Reuters) - Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi threatened on Sunday to take unspecified steps to "protect this nation" after violent demonstrations against his Muslim Brotherhood, using vague but severe language that the opposition said heralded a crackdown.

In remarks following clashes outside the Brotherhood's Cairo headquarters on Friday, Mursi warned that "necessary measures" would be taken against any politicians shown to be involved in what he described as violence and rioting.

"If I am forced to do what is required to protect this nation, then I will do it. And I fear that I might be on the verge of doing it," Mursi said in a statement. He did not elaborate.

Mursi has faced increasing anger since the Brotherhood propelled him to power in a June election, and several spates of protest have turned into violent riots.

Imagine now:

"Obama has faced increasing anger since the Democrats propelled him to power in a November election." Hmm... I could imagine a Tea Partier writing that.

People vote in elections, right? And so THEY propel candidates into office. The article is editorially biased.

2. However, the opposition has proof that the Brotherhood prevented

some from voting and changed ballots. There was election fraud. Egypt is split about 50-50 between those who support and those who oppose Mursi. Mursi has made several power grabs.

3. Has Obama threatened to arrest members of the political

opposition? Cuz that's what's being discussed here.

4. That's not what I was discussing.

I was discussing the underhanded editorializing of the article. And, by the way, if the Republicans were doing what some among the Egyptian opposition were doing, I'd hope that they would be arrested here.
