Pakistan arrests suspect in murder of U.S. journalist Pearl

Source: Reuters

(Reuters) - Pakistan has arrested a former militant leader in connection with the 2002 murder of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, security officials said on Monday.

Qari Abdul Hai, once a leader of the outlawed Sunni militant group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ), was arrested on Sunday during a security crackdown in Pakistan's biggest city, Karachi, said the officials.

Pearl, an American, was kidnapped in Karachi while researching a story on Islamist militants in the months after the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States.

1. The death of Daniel Pearl was horrendous, even in a time of horror

If this is indeed one of the militants behind the murder I hope he gets full justice. Pearl offered to give them a voice and tell their side of the story and they butchered him.

In July 2002, Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, a British national of Pakistani origin, was sentenced to death by hanging for Pearl's abduction and murder.

In March 2007, at a closed military hearing in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed said that he had personally beheaded Pearl Al-Qaeda member Saif al-Adel has also been connected with the murder of Daniel Pearl.

How many people commit a crime together has nothing to do with how many people you can get to confess to it.

Major Strasser has been shot... round up the usual suspects.

We'll see if Pakistan still has the gumption to prosecute someone for killing an American Jew. I have my doubts.

Pakistan's ISI was the one responsible for the murder and is handing out a low level fruit vendor or rickshaw driver to keep the US aid flowing.

It's pretty hard to miss your inevitable slagging off of Pakistan on every thread that
mentions the country (and many that don't) but your presence has been particularly
conspicuous by its absence on those showing Indian disgraces rather than Pakistani
ones.

requires stalking, i.e. actively looking for my sobriquet. It is simple logic!

In any event, the so called "Indian disgraces" you mention are carried out by scumbag individuals in India who are brought to justice and punished.

The "Pakistani disgraces" are acts of terrorism carried out by the government of Pakistan and the real perpetrators are well hidden by the Pakistani authorities just like they hid Osama bin Laden.

Major difference don't you think?

At least with an arrest, there is some evidence.

Daniel Pearl was investigating ISI's links to two major terrorist groups, Jaish-e-Mohammad and Laskhar-e-Taiba.
