Rand Paul endorses immigrant path to citizenship
Source: AP
WASHINGTON (AP) Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky is endorsing a pathway to citizenship for the nation's 11 million illegal immigrants, a significant move for a favorite of tea party Republicans who are sometimes hostile to such an approach.
In a speech to be delivered Tuesday morning to the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the potential 2016 presidential candidate declares, "If you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you." A copy of the speech was obtained in advance by The Associated Press.
Paul's path to citizenship would come with conditions that could make it long and difficult for illegal immigrants. Chief among these, Congress would have to agree first that progress was being made on border security.
Nonetheless, Paul's endorsement of allowing illegal immigrants an eventual way to become citizens puts him in line with a growing number of Republicans who are embracing action on immigration as a way to broaden the GOP's appeal to Latinos. On Monday, a Republican National Committee report called on the GOP to support comprehensive reform, though without specifying whether it should include a pathway to citizenship, which is decried by some conservatives as amnesty.

(24,692 posts)Once they become 'legal' (and on their way to becoming citizens) with the labor protections that everyone else has, the ability of unscrupulous employers to exploit them largely disappears. The Chamber can't be in favor of that.

(24,692 posts)Well, apparently Rand didn't consider that by playing this treasonous hand he has immediately made many millions of new enemies. Now, instead of getting any gain among "Hispanics"-- which he wouldn't be getting anyway, he just alienated and pushed away millions of real voting Americans.
He has just helped seal the fate of the republican party, and I am glad it is DOA because they have done as much to turn America into a cesspool as the democrats.
Now it's time for people to embrace a third party which represents Americans and our laws and traditions; not bankers, not corporations, not foreign nationals or for any other reasons.
Rand, you F******* up boy, you really f****** up.

Rand probably knows he is losing the extreme wing of the 'crazy' vote and hopes that he will appeal to more of the 'only slightly crazy' wing of the party.

On Tuesday Sen. Rand Paul will urge conservatives to abandon their long standing opposition to a pathway to citizenship for the millions of undocumented workers in the United States
Stick a fork in him. Why these fools prefer to serve foreign nationals who show contempt for our laws rather than send them packing is a mystery to me.

And muffles the amnesty part so people wont notice that.
Hugh Hewitt, Michael Medved, and other clever members of the Treason Lobby are now calling amnesty regularization in hopes that it will fool us.

All the idiots on here who cheered Pauls siding with Al Qaeda and CAIR are now finding their Golden Hero selling them out on amnesty.
This guy is to the LEFT of Obama! Thank God he will never be President!

RE :Hispanics should be a natural and sizable part of the Republican base. That they have steadily drifted away from the GOP in each election says more about Republicans than it does Hispanics, Paul will say, arguing that Defense of the unborn and defense of traditional marriage are Republican issues that should resonate with Latinos, but have been obscured by the misperception that Republicans are hostile to immigrants.
Although Paul has long been supportive of comprehensive reform that includes some form of a pathway to citizenship for undocumented workers, Tuesday's speech represents his most detailed comments on the topic.
I find it interesting that Rand would cite traditional marriage as an argument for amnesty because I am pretty sure he is supportive of same sex marriage, which is why he recently said congress should remove the Federal tax breaks for married couples.
Rand, you cant have it both ways. You cant have small government and give illegals the vote at the same time.
Same problem with Rubio.
Get this :
For instance, Paul will outright dismiss claims that undocumented immigrants have become a drain on the nation's welfare system, saying "I've never met a new immigrant looking for a free lunch."
No??? Millions of them line up for free breakfast, lunches and food stamps every day Rand!

(94,624 posts)The APs Erica Werner reported Paul told a Hispanic business group that illegal aliens should be allowed to become U.S. taxpayers and ultimately get a shot at citizenship.
However, Paul told the Washington Post, which carried the original story, the reporting was inaccurate.
I didnt use the word citizenship at all this morning, he said. Basically what I want to do is to expand the worker visa program, have border security and then as far as how people become citizens, there already is a process for how people become citizens.
