O’Donnell Delivers Epic Takedown Of ‘Comedian’ Sarah Palin & Reporters Who Still Take Her Seriously

Lawrence O’Donnell used his “Rewrite” segment Monday night to take on Sarah Palin‘s joke-filled CPAC speech and what hr continued presence on the national stage means for the state of the political media.

Calling Palin “by far, the best comedian of the 2008 presidential campaign,” O’Donnell admonished members of the “mainstream media” for continuing to take her seriously as a political candidate, especially after she resigned as Alaska’s governor. Instead of maligning the “lamestream media,” O’Donnell said Palin should have been thanking the “even lamer-stream media” for propping her up as a potential GOP frontrunner for 2012.

“The story of Sarah Palin,” O’Donnell said, “was the story of the failure of the political media who just didn’t get her and actually thought she was still an ambitious politician.” More than ever before, O’Donnell said that at CPAC, Palin “was declaring as loudly as she possibly could that she is a comedian first, political commentator second.”

O’Donnell proceeded to play a comprehensive montage of Palin’s greatest CPAC “jokes” as a tribute to all the reporters who “failed to comprehend on the day she quit her governorship that she was quitting politics and entering show business.”
