CPAC Straw Poll Results 2013: Rand Paul Wins Conservative Vote

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) won the Conservative Political Action Conference straw poll on Saturday, marking an early indicator of conservative support ahead of the next presidential election in 2016.

Paul topped the list and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) came in second, according to Ian Bishop.

The annual straw poll came at the conclusion of the high-profile conference, which featured dozens of notable conservative speakers over three days at National Harbor near Washington, D.C.

Last year, Mitt Romney came out on top in the CPAC poll, foreshadowing his eventual nomination as Republican presidential candidate.

Paul may have won, but like his father the will never get the republican nomination, and he will never be president of the USA. Like his father he will run, collect millions from his crazy base, and will make a carrier out of running year after year till he retires, just like good old dad!

The one good thing about Rand is that he might just be crazy enough to run on third party ticket. That would divide the republican base and pretty much insure another democrat will win in 2016!

cpac is an extremely small group of people in a nation of over 300 million.

they are not indicative of anything except what the blatant racists want, politically... and the nation isn't going to give them what they want. So let them have a meaningless straw fantasy poll which means nothing in the grander scheme of things--they love living in fantasy land, anyway, because none of them can deal with reality.

Oh how I wish this nut could get the Repub nomination but alas, as some here have said it won't happen. The Republican party is nasty, narrow, dishonest, dirty, but not completely crazy (yet).

Ah well, we can but dream.

I think this might give us all a window into into how relevant this is.

Rand is nothing more than the flavor of the day, IMO. He got the CPAC participation ribbon for the most popular guy in the room.

Let's look at the CPAC record and their straw polls.

either way it's going to be a second in a row 1964 Goldwater style loss for the republicans in 2016.
And Hillary kicking Jebs ass will mean a 3rd battle for the soul of the republican party Goldwater style loss for the republicans in 2020.

probably also mean Democratic Senators will number close to 70 by then, and a major portion of the house.

If I can find it, will post later today a good article I read this week on a major problem republicans have that they don't realize they have.

His father won the Straw Poll, too, but barely made any noise. The results of these Straw Polls are misleading, as they are online and thus probably oversample libertarians. On the Internet, libertarians are EVERYWHERE and infest many messaging boards. But in the outside world, hardly any show up to vote!
