Galena fire: Push to contain blaze before high winds return
Source: Denver Post
Firefighters are pushing hard to contain as much of the Galena wildfire in Larimer County as possible Saturday in anticipation of higher winds expected Sunday, officials say.
Sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph could spread the wildfire in the Lory State Park, so firefighters are working to expand containment lines Saturday, said Capt. Matt Housley of the Poudre Fire Authority. So far, authorities have reported only 5 percent containment.
No homes or structures have been destroyed by the wildfire, and no firefighters have been injured, but hundreds of homeowners have been evacuated from their house, authorities say.
The fire is likely larger than the 750 to 1,000 acres reported Friday night, but no new infrared mapping
analysis has been done yet Saturday, said Larimer County Sheriff's Executive Officer Nick Christensen.
