(11,415 posts)Did you march? That is the point of this thread.

(45,851 posts)Christmas is the pagan celebration of the Winter Solstice that was only co-opted by the Christians.
Even granting the physical existence of Jesus it's clear from the Biblical texts that he was not born during the winter.

(11,415 posts)It is not really and Irish thing if they rejected this group so if they change it and open it to all groups an the atheists were rejected then there would be a problem with unfair access. Obviously it's not open. Really their shouldn't be any Protestant groups marching either.

(7,800 posts)celebrates St. Patrick on St. Patrick's Day?
I don't; it's just a socially acceptable day to get hammered (very little, if any, religion involved for most Americans).

(23,998 posts)Just kidding. I know you were referring to the atheist group. But I'm pretty sure that the organizers don't actually believe in St. Patrick's legacy any more than the atheists believe in Christian sainthood. After all, where in the history of St. Patrick does it say anything about rowdy parades, Irish coffee, and pinching people who don't wear green?
I was reading the article thinking protecting the legacy? A little late for that. Isn't this the recognized holiday where everyone celebrates by getting sh*tfaced? In fact it is encouraged?

(403 posts)Don't give me that religious nonsense. I was raised Catholic. St. Patricks day is about getting drunk.

I heard almost that same saying prior to Civil Rights, prior to homosexual rights and prior to undocumented aliens getting legal status.
Was it during those times I heard these from you?

(9,213 posts)They were practically acosting us at a festival last fall, asking us questions about our beliefs and making judgments about us and stuff, it was really unsettling. Also, there was a concert going on and we were all sitting on the lawn and they were holding these big signs and walking in front of all of us and our kids sitting on this lawn, blocking about 50% of the show. One of the guys just had a big sign that said, "Ask me a question" so people kept yelling at him asking him to move out of the way.
