Young Israel Launches ‘Call For Clemency Campaign’ For Pollard In Advance Of Obama’s Israel Trip

With President Obama set to make his first visit to Israel as President on March 20th amidst a groundswell of support for Jonathan Pollard’s release, now is the time to call the White House and urge the President to commute Pollard’s sentence to time served. Next month, on April 8, 2013, Jonathan Pollard will have spent 10,000 long and lonely days in prison.

Although the “Call for Clemency Campaign” is an initiative of the National Council of Young Israel, it is supported by Jews throughout the United States, as evidenced by the growing calls for President Obama to commute Pollard’s prison sentence. There has been a flurry of activity in recent weeks relative to the plight of Jonathan Pollard, as Prime Minister Netanyahu, President Peres, the leaders of every major political party in the Knesset, and U.S. government officials, legal professionals, and religious groups have all called for Pollard’s release, as has the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations.

As part of the “Call for Clemency Campaign,” people across the United States are encouraged to call President Obama and request the release of Jonathan Pollard and to tell the White House that 28 years in prison is more than enough. A reported story about Pollard was that the information he stole was delivered to Israel who traded that information in exchange for the Soviets relaxing emigration requirements on Russian Jews so they could go to Israel. Pollard spied on the US at the behest of Israel and is feted by Israel as being some sort of hero...

That's in complete contrast to the Australian/Israeli citizen who was a Mossad agent and was thrown in prison in Israel with a total gag order on him. No-one knows what he did to warrant indefinate detention in solitary confinement in a high security prison, but the speculation is that he was possibly going to give information to a foreign government about misuse of passports by Israel. He'll never be able to set the record straight, as he somehow managed to hang himself while in solitary confinement and being monitored 24/7.

Both spied for the Soviet Union, actions that resulted in killing of CIA agents in the Soviet Block. Both were sentenced to life. Same as Pollard who spied for Israel. A friend and an ally. As much as DUers hate these relations.
