Damascus, Feb 28 (Prensa Latina) Syrian Foreign and Expatriate Ministry denounced at the UN on Thursday the concession of the Israeli government to a US company to explore oil in the Syrian occupied Golan.
In similar letters sent to the President of the Security Council and UN Secretary General, Damascus condemned the action and called it illegitimate and a violation the existing agreements on that Syrian territory occupied by Israel.
The letters recall that Tel AvivâÖs actions are a flagrant violation of the 497 resolution of the UN Security Council in 1981, which bans Israel from exploiting and changing the nature and geographical environment of the occupied territory.
Last week, the Syrian media reported that Israel had given permission to US Genie Energy Company to explore hydrocarbons in the occupied Golan.
