Hillary Clinton To Give Paid Speeches
Source: Huffington Post/Politico
Hillary Clinton will begin giving paid speeches this year, Politico's Mike Allen reported Monday.
Clinton, who retired as U.S. secretary of state earlier this month, is joining the Harry Walker Agency and is expected to earn fees in the six-figure range. However, Politico reports that she will likely speak for no fee on behalf of causes she supports, and will donate some of her earnings to charity.
The agency confirmed the news on its website Monday morning. "We are proud to share the exciting news that Former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has joined the Harry Walker Agency exclusively for her speaking engagements," reads the announcement.
Former President Bill Clinton, also represented by Harry Walker Agency, has had a lucrative career on the speaking circuit since exiting the White House in 2001. In 2011, he earned $13.4 million from speaking fees, increasing his total speaking earnings to $89 million over 10 years.

(81,440 posts)I think she has every right to cash in! She may have to pick and choose carefully because somebody's gonna try to hang her on taking money from some terrorist group or Iranians or something. Unfortunately, that ICK, ted cruz, will likely still be in the Senate - if his big intolerant joe-mccarthy mouth doesn't render him forced to resign sooner. He just got in so we're all stuck with him til 2018. Texas voters - WHAT WERE YOU THINKING???? Did you just like his face or his last name? What the hell???????? That has YOUR name on it, you know, whether you like it or not. As a Californian, I've gotta say - I will always wince at the names reagan and nixon - because our sometimes-foolish state foisted both those bastards on the country - even though I myself didn't go along with it. And our lovely state pushed that selfish old fart howard jarvis on everybody, too, and started that nightmare back in 1978, affecting the social climate enough that the ground was all nice 'n' softened up for reagan's success two years later to take root.
I'm sorry, America!

(25,406 posts)Despite claims of keeping a low profile, W has been crisscrossing the globe over the past two years, giving talks at hundreds of events, conferences and forums to anyone, it appears, willing to pony up for his reportedly boffo asking price.
No. 43's standard speaking fee is reportedly between $100,000 and $150,000, and Bush has delivered almost 140 paid talks since leaving the Oval Office, the Center for Public Integrity reported.
"I find it puzzling," Stanford University historian Robert Dallek told the center's iWatch News. "He says he wants to keep a low profile. What is he doing except enriching himself?

(7,412 posts)So it's bad for Government officials to make six figures a year while serving, but good for them to make six figures for a day of work?
Just curious, after the stuff I saw in the Pelosi thread earlier about Congress people needing all their salary.

(30,250 posts)So does Bill and he also has found the time to devote to his foundation. A foundation, mind you, that has helped to better the lives of millions of people around the world. I expect Hillary to do the same.
