Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) told a group of Republicans in St. Louis on Saturday that the GOP has been spending too much time obsessing over government bookkeeping and not enough time emphasizing the party's message of economic growth.
From the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:
We must not become the party of austerity. We must become the party of (economic) growth, Jindal said. We have fallen into a trap of believing the world revolves around Washington.
Jindal delivered a similar message at the Republican National Committee's meeting in Charlotte, N.C. last month.

Proof is in the pudding Mr. Jindal. Vote and walk like you believe it.

(45,358 posts)As soon as that issue is solved (good luck Bobby), then he can start trying to change his party into something it's not, never has been and never will be.

(1,957 posts)is actually around themselves and they think the world revolves around them. Until they realize they are supposed to be representing us,the everyday tax payer little will change. We are the movers and shakers. I would like to see them get along with the window washers, cab drivers, toilet cleaners, the farmer, the candlestick maker. We certainly could get along better without them(especially since they never have time to represent us) then they could without all the services we do for them.

(1,260 posts)I live in NE Louisiana. Jindal thinks the entire world revolves around him. He has destroyed healthcare and higher education so he can give money to millionaires to try to stimulate economic growth. He is secretive and under handed. He is rotten to core. I hate him.

(6,928 posts)He is the worst governor in Louisiana history---and that is quite an accomplishment. He will say anything to kow-tow to the plutocrats and extreme right, and I wouldn't believe anything he says even if his tongue were notarized.
He has given the assets of the state away and now plans to destroy the tax base even further with his ALEC-inspired swap of eliminating income taxes in favor of higher sales taxes.
He closed a nearly century-old mental hospital in Mandeville whimpering that the state can't afford the $1 million cost. And at the same time, he vetoed the renewal of a 4 cent cigarette tax that would bring in $23 million/year because of his wrong-headed right wing ideology to oppose taxes.

(13,297 posts)The Republican Party of today would never have them as their leader. It defies voting booth mentality. What they say in public will never match what they do in the private of the voting booth. One look at that GOP Convention audience from 2012 will tell you that.
Oh sure, the Republicans love to fly a few colorful flags up the pole for celebrations, but when it comes to the day to day decisions, their party is as lily as they come. That is not going to change in 3 years time.
Jindal may as well be practicing his next gymnastics move as practicing an RNC acceptance speech. He'd have to bend over twice as much to achieve the same results. No medal. No nomination. No way.
At some point there are some things that don't bend that far - and one of them is the Republican Party.

(2,730 posts)now officially the Party of States' Rights. People like Jindal and Rubio are only accepted as second class citizens. They are alright as long as they sit in the backseat. They can only be foreman for the plantation but not the owners. The top positions are only for people like Rush Limbaugh. That is the problem they had with Obama.

Law 1 - You will obey orders without question.
Law 2 - Punishment shall be swift.
Law 3 - Mercy is for the weak.
Law 4 - Terror will defeat reason.
Law 5 - Your allegiance is to the clan.
Law 6 - Justice can be dictated.
Law 7 - Any Clansman may challenge for leadership of the Clan.
Law 8 - There is only one penalty - DEATH
They are pandering to the idiots hoarding guns and dreaming of the day when they will overthrow the gubmunt.

(19,359 posts)I live in Louisiana and as a professor I know what he has done to higher education in the state. Since he's been in office he has lowered education funding for state colleges and universities by 32%. He claims he has helped higher education weather a state revenue loss of 26% in the past five years and has only cut state funding by 7%.
He bases his figure of 7% (instead of 32% which all but a funded right-wing study concluded) on the fact that universities have raised tuition (which he calls state funding!) and several other ficsal slight-of-hand.
Do not believe this man for a moment.
Jindal wants to do away with the corporate and individual income taxes and replace their revenue with higher sales taxes, which he claims will e for fair for everyone (and make the tax cheats pay an equal share). He claims a sales tax will not inordinately hurt the poor nor aid the rich.
Do not believe this man for a moment.
