Keystone XL protesters arrested outside White House

48 arrested outside White House, including leading American environmentalists

Several leading American environmentalists were among 48 people arrested outside the White House on Wednesday as they protested TransCanada's proposed Keystone XL pipeline, a flashpoint for the U.S. climate change movement.

After the activists gathered outside the White House's northernmost wrought-iron fence, along a stretch of Pennsylvania Avenue where protests are prohibited, police began their methodical arrests as supporters chanted: "Hey, Obama, we don't want no climate drama."

Among those arrested were Michael Brune, the executive director of the Sierra Club; James E. Hansen, a prominent climate scientist; Bill McKibben, a vocal anti-Keystone XL activist; and environmental lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

The tarsands that this pipeline is for are the worst polluter in North America

It is all about money, my friends. My prime Minister is owned by the oil and gas guys.

is owned by the Chinese even more than the oil and gas guys. No matter, there will be a major revolt if he tries pipelining the tar across BC.

I was at the White House yesterday;as a activist for all worthy causes and photo enthusiast I document events I take part in.

I did miss shots of the actual arrests because I was also attending another event at the White House with fellow peace activists taking part in a Ash Wednesday ashes and prayer service for the repentance of our country's war making.
