Between now and then to try to sound vaguely close to sane. I can't imagine, even with all their ill-gotten money, those highly paid speech writers can make him sound rational.

.... after Newtown I was supposed to go deer hunting that weekend. I could
not even get my shotgun out of it's case let alone load it ...... If you are not
willing to make any kind of changes after that slaughter then you have no heart.

As a Dad my heart aches for those families. The simple joy of having a little one
crawl into your lap is one of the greatest gifts a person can have .... those poor
people and friends of Newton will never have a good day again.

I have two 20 gauge pump shotguns w/ different tubes and choke cylinders
that cover everything from birds, rabbits, waterfowl and deer, 1 .22 HR bolt
action rifle (5 shot clip), and one .30-.30 that I never use because I live Ohio
and it is flat here and the moose and elk population are zero.

These people are sick .... BTW when I hunt in Ohio I am allowed 3 shells in my
gun ..... period .... if "they" catch me w >3 shells in my gun .... "they" get my gun
and I pay a big fine .... BTW I don't get my gun back either.

sheesh. now it's 3 responses. splintered in 3 now. lol. seriously SOTU yeah not that exciting per se but watching the Republicans fall apart at the seems is hilarious. Sorry Democrats have been there as well. but at least we recognized that and fixed it. (Thanks Howard Dean) Republicans are gonna go to pieces soon... play false victim and raise money

After Newtown an issue that we were lead to ignore because it wasn't on the national front page (spirited debate here on DU though) made people like me to look into it....and the NRA's position, rhetoric, and general a-holeishness was exposed.

I am not totally TAKE THEM AWAY but in my short topic briefing found that small measures go a long way to decrease the problem.

This lead me on my new understanding

....every single time he opens his mouth, more phones ring in at the capital. I think he's just rubbing salt into the wound, because the Republicans have the Majority in the House. That's his ace in the hole, he thinks. Remember, the President proposes and the Congress disposes. The American People and the President can holler to high heaven, but the Republicans are never going to pass it. If it came to the floor for a vote, I personally think it would have a chance of passing. But the House Leadership may not allow it to come to a vote. That's what PO was referring to last night, when he urged the Congress to allow those gun control proposals a chance to be voted on. "They deserve a vote."

And if they don't allow it to come to a vote, the noose around Republican necks get a little tighter. There's an election in two years, and they WILL be held accountable. I hate to say it, but we are no doubt headed for many more incidents, even if everything proposed is passed. And if the American People have to wait two more years, through more tragedies, I do believe the tables will be turned in Congress in 2014. This country, right and left, have come together by the tragedy at Newtown, CT. My 2 cents...

We need to bash LaPierre and the NRA everytime they say something stupid. When Congress members start realizing a high grade from the NRA means low votes for those members then we can get this turned around. Integration was not accomplished overnight and perhaps weapons of war will not be regulated overnight but one by one we will keep going on this. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!!!!

I have it on very good authority that a good many of our very own "pro gun progressives"* can be found on these sub-forums, snickering up their online sleeves about how they troll DU daily.

Like the fellow in your link:

"Alan, you've got to play ball a little and sneak in some pro 2A stuff. If you tip your hand too early you get banned outright like you did."
