Jerry Brown calls Texas Gov Rick Perry's ad 'barely a fart'

Source: Sacramento Bee

One day after Texas Gov. Rick Perry released a radio ad in California criticizing the Golden State's business climate and encouraging businesses to relocate to Texas, California Gov. Jerry Brown said today that Perry's campaign is "barely a fart."

"It's not a serious story, guys," the Democratic governor told reporters at a business event here. "It's not a burp. It's barely a fart."

The ad buy Perry announced Monday is relatively small, at about $24,000, but it gained widespread attention in the media. Brown called the amount "the smallest entry into the media market of California."

What did that get him? 30 seconds on K-Hick in Bakersfield?

I suspect that the Bee took his bait and gave him the publicity for free, like Will Ferrell's Super Bowl ad that only aired in a couple of tiny markets, then went viral (by design).

Kind of like LBJ's 'daisy' ad against Goldwater. It only ran once, and everything after that was free PR thanks to the news media (which was a lot tougher to manipulate than the corporate trained lap poodles in today's media markets).

Not even bright enough to know that's a photo-op you do NOT want to pose for...

GEEZ, these political consultants need to issue an all-points-bulletin: NO CORNDOG EATING ON THE CAMPAIGN!!! It just invites too much trouble. But he strikes me as pretty stupid, all told, so it doesn't surprise me that he has political consultants with heads full of powdered corndog batter.

This lifelong Californian says 'never gonna happen.' California is a place people dream of and write love sings about. They always have. We've got the weather and the wealth and the rich cultural mosaic that we actually celebrate. If someone wants to invest $24K here in a useless ad campaign it's okay but prolly won't work. Could even backfire.
