Fla. judge: No trial delay in Trayvon Martin case

SANFORD, Fla. (AP) The murder trial for the Florida man charged in the shooting death of teenager Trayvon Martin remains set for a June start after a judge Tuesday denied a defense request for a postponement.
George Zimmerman's lead attorney Mark O'Mara presented a motion to have the trial pushed back to November. He argued that prosecutors had been slow to turn over needed evidence.
State attorney Bernie de la Rionda denied the accusation the prosecution had been dragging its feet and said it was rather a case of the defense using inefficient means to secure the information it wanted.
With roughly four months left before the scheduled June 10 trial, Judge Debra Nelson said she felt the defense still has time to work out the outstanding issues.

the faster he's convicted the faster he can die of old age in prison. I know that makes no sense but the streets will be a safer place when he's convicted and we know he will never walk out of prison again.

(79 posts)... is in the Chron story:
"[Zimmerman attorney Mark] O'Mara recently renewed his overtures to the public to donate more money for Zimmerman ... "
The longer the delay, the more money O'Mara can squeeze out of the gullible to pay his fees. (It wouldn't surprise me if he and Zim have negotiated a split.)

(5,756 posts)And his lodging in "extended-stay hotels" was a money drain? So sorry, so sad. He could have done a couple of alternatives. One, find one of his fawning fans who thinks Z did a good thing when he killed Trayvon in alleged self-defense to take him in. Two, use a cheap motel instead of an extended-stay hotel. You pay for all those amenities like kitchens, those free breakfasts and the pools and fitness centers in those places. A cheap motel off the interstate or turnpike would have been just fine.
What expert witnesses does O'Mara need to bring in on this case I wonder? There doesn't seem to be any need to do deep analysis of evidence from the scene. I can only guess he'll bring in psychiatrists to tell the jury how logical it was for Z to have felt his life was endangered. And to tell the jury how awful Martin was from their analysis of his school records and the fact they found traces of, OMG, THC (pot) in his system.
O'Mara's whole case is going to revolve around smearing a dead victim who cannot speak for himself.
