Teen Pregnancy down 27% in New York City over the last decade: report

Teen pregnancy in the city has plunged by 27% over the last decade, new data show.

The dip comes as the number of teens having sex has fallen, while the proportion using birth control has gone up, according to numbers to be released by the city Health Department Sunday.

“Two things are happening here — teens are using more contraceptives, and they’re also delaying sexual activity,” said Health Commissioner Tom Farley.

The city has worked to make it easier for kids to get birth control — giving out condoms at schools and making birth control and the morning-after pill available in some school clinics, a sometimes controversial move.

Sounds like they've been taking a cue from Planned Parenthood's teen outreach programs.

According to the article, in NYC, "Teen pregnancy in the city is still higher than it is nationwide, but it has fallen at a sharper rate, officials said.

I thought contraception causes teens to have sex. How could it possibly be that sexual activitiy has fallen while teens have been getting easier access to condoms? It just doesn't add up.

Next you're going to tell me that more guns don't make us safer.
