Donald Trump sues Bill Maher
Source: Washington Post
Publicity stunts for Donald Trump are nothing new but this one is just weird. Trump says hes suing Bill Maher, claiming the acerbic comic failed to make good on a public bet. Last month, Maher told Jay Leno hed give $5 million to Trumps charity of choice if the businessman could prove hes not spawn of his mother having sex with an orangutan. Trump sent his birth certificate listing Fred Trump as his father and now wants Maher to pay up. He promised me $5 million for charity if I provided certain information, Trump told Fox & Friends Monday. Well, I provided the information. He didnt pay. So today I sue Bill Maher for $5 million for charity. The lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Monday

(62,444 posts)So, the orangutan was named Fred Trump.
But, in all seriousness, no reasonable person would have considered this to be an objectively enforcible offer. Bill Maher is a comedian.

(62,444 posts)In the case of public offers or rewards, a unilateral promise is capable of binding acceptance.
For example, if you post "lost cat, $50 reward", then whoever shows up with the cat is entitled to the $50 you promised. No "meeting of minds" required.

(62,444 posts)If you think about it, if a "meeting of the minds" were a requisite element of contract, then Donald Trump wouldn't be able to form a contract with anyone in the first place, as he is not possessed of the basic requirement thereof on his end.

(785 posts)And maybe his mother too. But how do we know she was really his mother? Couldn't he just as easily been the love child of Ayn Rand and a baboon? Maybe he's trying to throw us off the trail with this. Looks like Ayn is going to have to come up too. And we will need newspaper clippings too. I think we need to push on for years until we get to the purple assed bottom of this.

(1,301 posts)Especially since he's naturally so funny, beginning with his hair. I like to believe there's a parallel universe in which Donald Trump is a comedian, or some kind of comedic public figure, rather than a mere asshole. Sorta like what he actually was before he allied himself so heavily with the baggers, actually.
