Donald Trump sues Bill Maher

Source: Washington Post

Publicity stunts for Donald Trump are nothing new — but this one is just weird. Trump says he’s suing Bill Maher, claiming the acerbic comic failed to make good on a public bet. Last month, Maher told Jay Leno he’d give $5 million to Trump’s charity of choice if the businessman could prove he’s not “spawn of his mother having sex with an orangutan.” Trump sent his birth certificate listing Fred Trump as his father — and now wants Maher to pay up. “He promised me $5 million for charity if I provided certain information,” Trump told “Fox & Friends” Monday. “Well, I provided the information. He didn’t pay. So today I sue Bill Maher for $5 million for charity.” The lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Monday

Tue Feb 5, 2013, 12:36 AM
Feb 2013

In the case of public offers or rewards, a unilateral promise is capable of binding acceptance.

For example, if you post "lost cat, $50 reward", then whoever shows up with the cat is entitled to the $50 you promised. No "meeting of minds" required.

If you think about it, if a "meeting of the minds" were a requisite element of contract, then Donald Trump wouldn't be able to form a contract with anyone in the first place, as he is not possessed of the basic requirement thereof on his end.

Especially since he's naturally so funny, beginning with his hair.
