Senator Rand Paul Submits A National Right To Work Bill
Source: New Hampshire Labor News
By Matt Murray
The battle over Right To Work States just took a monumental leap as Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) introduces a National Right to Work (for less) Act.
Sen. Rand Paul this week introduced the National Right to Work Act, S. 204, which seeks to preserve and protect the free choice of individual employees to form, join, or assist labor organizations, or to refrain from such activities.
Every American worker deserves the right to freedom of association and I am concerned that the 26 states that allow forced union membership and dues infringes on these workers rights, Sen. Paul said. Right to work laws ensure that all Americans are given the choice to refrain from joining or paying dues to a union as a condition for employment. Nearly 80 percent of all Americans support the principles and so I have introduced a national Right to Work Act that will require all states to give their workers the freedom to choose.
Sen. Pauls Right to Work Act does not add a single word to existing federal law, it simply deletes forced unionism provisions in federal law.

Anything Rand Paul or his father Ron Paul wants, i want the opposite.

I hope Ashley Judd runs against him and defeats him.
He deserves to be defeated and the irony would be amazing.

(1,306 posts)like every other "principle" they pound on their chests about,
little snipe-faced assholes like him will abandon that principle
in a heartbeat IF that principle conflicts with higher agenda --
like union-busting.
State's Rights are sacrosanct...
except for the folks in the "blue" states.
According to this moron, states can just "nullify" any Federal bill
they don't like (such as this piece of shit), or secede from the
union.
The Constitution is sacrosanct...
except for the parts they use to wipe their arses.
"WE BUILT THAT!", "Rugged Individualism", "Moocher Class",
"Personal Responsibility", blah blah blah...
Union Members built that work environment !
Union Members were the rugged individuals who fought for
those benefits and economic justice !
If a person wanted to benefit from another's labor, without
contributing something himself, doesn't that meet the very
definition of that person being "a moocher" and irresponsible ????
He sugar-coats his bullshit with the usual Republican mantra
of "freedom" and "individual rights", but it's all about money,
union-busting and a loathing of a working class that isn't totally
submissive to the aristocracy (i.e. people like him) If he had his
way, he would piss on every union member in the country. This
bill is just his way of doing that.
Fuck Him. Fuck that fascist Ayn Rand. Fuck anyone named Rand.

(17,301 posts)Union Representation without taxation. People who get the rights of the Union without the work or membership dues are freeloaders. I actually know of one RepubliCON who felt so awful about this freeloading she actually paid the membership dues when she did not have to. She hated Unions but hated being a freeloader more.

(1,589 posts)then the employer is forced to recognize that union. This 'forces' any employee that did not vote to organize to join a union.
But that's only part of the story. It is very likely that any employee voting not to organize did so because they are what we call 'job scared' - meaning they are afraid of repercussions from the employer.
also, any employee voting No would have no complaints later on. The better working conditions, higher wages and protections under federal laws are not something anybody complains about. Not to mention direct support and mediation from the parent union like the national AFL-CIO.
It is 100.0% true that nobody can be forced to join a union. Its funny that the right portrays us as thugs, but in the next breath, we are _easily intimidated thugs_...

(47,992 posts)That's not the case.
It's a one to many relationship for the employer, one employer to many different possible employees, so the employer has the hiring advantage and ALSO the post-hiring management advantage and . . .
It's a one to one (or only a very few) relationship for the employee, one employee to only one possible employer, so a prospective employee is at a disadvantage relative to any given prospective employer and also post-hiring relative to management issues in the work-place.
Libertarians live in fantasy land. Check into a history of their intra-party relationships and I'd bet you'll find many instances of mistrust and mis-understanding and cheating. And we're supposed to listen to these people about how to deal with conflict?

(108 posts)This is an attempt to indenture workers again. It is not right to work, but right to fire.
Corporations know that they will be able to lower wages, benefits, and collective bargaining as they will be able to rehire at wages more beneficial to the corporation, management, and share holders.
Just look at Asia, every time that wages start to rise, manufacturing moves to the lowest cost countries. Workers are practically slaves, children work long hours for meager wages. The rich take advantage of the political system, which for the most part is corrupt.
Right to work or right to indenture. You figure it out. Look at the predatory banking and lending practices. One mobile phone provider has even gone as far as extending contracts for just changing plans. Soon, if you are not part of the rich you will become indentured. It's coming and the Republicans are leading the way.

There would be a strong incentive to to use it because of possible abuse against oneself, but against the office/shop jerk, it would make the country a much better place to work. An exception that the union could not dismiss a co-worker who was also a 5 percent or more owner, and couldn't dismiss anyone who was not a member of the bargaining unit.

(2,060 posts)American workers already DO have the right to associate with a business' recognized labor union or not... they can always quit.
It is no fucking different than when Rand Paul and like-minded conservative fucks compel corporate shareholders to submit to the will of the majority of stockholders when corporate monies are used for political causes the shareholder might oppose - they can always sell their shares in the company or decide to deal with it.
And THAT is the TALKING POINT we need to be repeating when combating the radical right's spin on right-to-work bullshit.
God, I hate this bastard!
