McCain: Losing Hispanic Vote May Change GOP On Immigration

Source: TPM

PEMA LEVY 10:24 AM EST, SUNDAY JANUARY 27, 2013

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said Sunday that losing the Hispanic vote in the last election will encourage Republicans to get on board with a comprehensive immigration bill that will provide a path to citizenship for the 11 million undocumented immigrants currently in the United States.

"I'll give you a little straight talk," McCain said on ABC's "This Week" when asked how Republicans could be convinced to include a path to citizenship in a reform package. "Look at the last election. Look at the last election. We are losing dramatically the Hispanic vote, which we think should be ours, for a variety of reasons, and we've got to understand that."

McCain: I’m ‘Guardedly Optimistic’ About Immigration Reform

PEMA LEVY 10:17 AM EST, SUNDAY JANUARY 27, 2013

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said Sunday he is "guardedly optimistic" that Democrats and Republicans can come up with an immigration reform bill that will include both border security provisions and a path to citizenship for the 11 million undocumented immigrants currently in the United States.

"I'm confident, guardedly optimistic, that this time we can get it done," McCain said on ABC's "This Week."

McCain is part of a bipartisan group of senators working on immigration that will announce the guiding principles of their reform efforts soon before getting down to crafting the legislation.

The GOTP base is racist and xenophobic. For decades they have been fed a steady, strong anti-immigrant diet and they are not about to change.

Nothing superficial, eh boys? ... Are they all going to all take Spanish lessons together, hire a tutor, and wear a sombrero during the next election? ...

Change ad agency. Proclaim the New and Improved GOP. Same agenda but with more smiley faces. Improve market share by sabotaging consumer choices. Generate more problems to solve with simplistic solutions. And blame competitors for doing these very same tings.

Bottom line.

They're going to have to do something with immigration reform to get the votes they need, cuz you know they'd like nothing more than to kick every undocumented immigrant out of the country right now.
