Gun rights supporters called to state Capitols

Source: USA Today

A grass-roots effort is calling on gun rights supporters to gather on state Capitol building grounds nationwide Saturday to protest proposals for more gun-control measures.

The group, called Guns Across America, wants the "peaceful, family-oriented," protests to occur at noon local time, said Eric Reed, the Texas resident who came up with the idea two weeks ago.

"We are hoping law-abiding citizens who value their right to bear arms will get more involved at the local, state and federal levels," he said. "When this most recent push for more gun-control measures started, I thought that law-abiding gun owners need to do something. Then I realized I was part of the problem, because I wasn't involved in doing anything to protect the Second Amendment. So I came up with this idea."

As of Wednesday afternoon, the effort's Facebook page listed 46 states that had representatives or associated Facebook pages for the protests. Word of the plans has mostly been spread over social media, Reed said. Local groups will determine the agenda of the gatherings and whether any speakers will be on hand, Reed said.

Bart Graves, media relations manager for the Arizona Department of Public Safety, says the Guns Across America effort in Arizona has a permit to demonstrate at the state Capitol building in Phoenix on Saturday. In Florida, the gathering will occur at the Hernando County Fairgrounds, since it is more centrally located than the state capital of Tallahassee, Reed said.

if you have a concealed handgun license you actually get in quicker than everyone else who has to be searched.

I live in illinois and decided to call the governors office after the president gave his speech.

I was wondering why legislation hadn't been introduced as quickly as what was happening out east.

I was told that the governor didn't think restrictions were enough, made some changes/recommendations and sent it back to the senate (or something). Hopefully there will be more action will be taken this spring, or so i was told.

The young lady i spoke with said that pro-gun rights groups had been more vocal in contacting them than those in favor of regulation.

Unfortunately, I wasn't shocked when I was told that those who were pro were from central and southern Illinois, which is crimson red and that there hadn't been many calls from Chicago.

I told them they needed to release an ad campaign in the city to encourage people to call.

Maybe those on this forum could help and I honestly don't care if you live in a different state.

Maybe I'll skip town that day, or just take extra care not to make loud noises.
