Police: 4 dead, including gunman in Aurora, Colo., hostage situation
Source: NBC News
Three people were found dead inside a home in Aurora, Colo., after a gunman took them hostage early Saturday morning, police told NBC affiliate KUSA. The gunman was also shot and killed by police after hours of failed negotiation attempts.
Another person who had been inside the house was able to escape and alert authorities, KUSA reported.
Officers were called to a town home around 3 a.m. after reports of shots fired. Several nearby homes were evacuated for safety reasons and police sent out emergency notifications for the other residents in the area.
Sgt. Cassidee Carlson of the Aurora Police Department told KUSA police had spoken on the phone with the suspect, and negotiators were at the scene.

(950 posts)This sort of thing is getting out of hand. I'm detecting a new "trendy" thing in pop-culture; kill 'em all.
And if some suggest some reasonable firearms control, much like what we have here in the Czech Republic, then all sorts of folks start screaming, "But that's taking away America's penis!"
Here's gun laws in the Czech Republic: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_politics_in_the_Czech_Republic
From the summary: Policy in the Czech Republic is in many respects less restrictive than elsewhere in Europe. The most recent Gun Act was passed in 2001, replacing the previous law and tightening the legislation slightly. Firearms in the Czech Republic are available to anybody without a criminal record and aged above 18 (or 21 for certain license categories). Self-defense is an acceptable justification to obtain a firearms license. The Czech gun laws also permits a citizen to carry a concealed weapon without having to specify a reason.

(21,761 posts)I live about in the middle and this is the first I'm hearing of this... There was just a big gun show out here, it was on the news that it was packed with people buying up guns. A few of us were talking about it just yesterday and thinking it would result in more people dying... Fucking gun nuts. I hope at least I don't know any of the dead this time

(978 posts)When a certain number of people become ill from a virus or whatever and it spreads, it's called an epidemic. A "plague" is more appropriate like you said.
Gun deaths should be treated the same way. For every few hundred gun deaths there are thousands more injuries.
I would say it's reached epidemic proportions. Probably has for several years now. And what do they do for epidemics? Quarantine.
Yeah, I hate it when they jump out of your pocket all on their own and start killing people. So annoying.
