Anti-abortion and abortion rights demonstrators clash in Portland

Source: Bangor (Maine) Daily News

PORTLAND, Maine — A Portland business owner rallied an abortion rights demonstration on Friday to counter the regular appearance on his street of anti-abortion protesters he called “obnoxious.”

The dueling demonstrations set the stage for chanting, arguing and sometimes yelling, as dozens of Planned Parenthood supporters turned out in opposition to what have become weekly protests outside organization’s Congress Street location in Portland.

The rally was organized by Mike Fink, owner of the pawn shop Guitar Grave and Mike’s Rock Deli, which provided coffee and free sandwiches Friday to anyone with an abortion rights sign or T-shirt.

Fink, whose businesses share the same block as the building housing Planned Parenthood, said he organized the rally after watching for months as the anti-abortion protesters gathered every Friday to demonstrate against the clinic.

... I seem to be seeing allot of activism coming to life around our country, and I love seeing it. The Police Chief up in Waterbury, Ct banning all gun shows until further notice, and now this Pawn shop guy organizing a protest to counter the wingers by the local Planned Parenthood clinic and his business. This is what has to happen all across our land. People have to make a stand once and for all. No more sitting back and watching our society be ripped up by ignorant Foxed up maniac wingers.

May we steal it? It's a good one!

And you're spot-on - this is the kind of progressive-response activism that's needed ACROSS THE COUNTRY. If all people see are the anti choicers or the anti-taxers or the teabagger crowd, that's all they know as far as any movement with momentum. Because they're only seeing a small sliver of it. These assholes are noisy and loutish and they're camera-hogs and mic-whores and that's all you see. They suck all the oxygen out of the room. They flood in and fill up the vacuum that's created by the absence of ANY presence on OUR side.

Well, IT'S PUSHBACK TIME!!! It's about time the public, the media, the voters - ALL start seeing OUR side represented out there. Because WE are the actual majority here. Anybody who still claims otherwise should study the results of the last election.

I'm VERY glad to see this. We need MORE of it!!!

We decided to have a 'We Trust Women Commemoration of 40 anniversary of Roe v Wade' or something along those lines.
I just turned into our small town a special permit application and we WILL commemorate this day when the decision of Roe v Wade said the US trusts women.

I'd like you, in your town, in your community to consider letting the world know that we appreciate R v W, when women quit dying from illegal & unsafe abortions.

That's how it should be worded and presented whenever ANYBODY starts talking about taking away OUR right as women to have the LAST WORD over what happens to OUR bodies. Not their bodies. Not men's bodies. Not even other women's bodies. OUR bodies.

"We decided to have a 'We Trust Women Commemoration of 40 anniversary of Roe v Wade' or something along those lines."

Okay, CONservatives - you think everybody in America should be on the "you're on your own" standard? Well, hereya go! Game ON.

Trusting women. Gee, what a concept.

It should be said, read, and spread!

We've got at least three decades of wrong-winger GOP CONservative, ayn-randian, selfish, pennywise/pound-foolish counter-programming and flat-out deprogramming to do - to take our country ... NOT back, but FORWARD.
