Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords plans Newtown visit

Source: NBC News

Former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle "Gabby" Giffords, who survived a shooting at a campaign event in Arizona two years ago and now advocates stricter gun laws, plans to be in Newtown, Conn., on Friday for a private late afternoon meeting.

Giffords plans to be at a home in the town where 20 first-graders and six staffers were gunned down at Sandy Hook Elementary School, a spokesperson for Gov. Dan Malloy's office told NBCConnecticut.com.

The meeting, the details of which are unclear, comes a day after more than 400 Sandy Hook students returned to class in a new building. Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman's spokesman Steve Jensen later told the AP that the visit was "planned but not confirmed" for Friday afternoon.

Giffords was shot in the head outside a supermarket in Tucson at a meet-the-congresswoman event in 2011. Six people were killed in that attack.

Bless Ms. Giffords, I can only imagine she feels her life is for a purpose. To get the conversation up, realistic gun laws. I am a gun owner, so was my Dad & Grandpa. Did you know that manufacturing guns does not fall under the same laws as say a Slinky? NRA has had a stranglehold (Thanks Ted) on not only the state and federal laws, but also on safety so you gun does not blow up in your hand.

Their gun safety classes in local communities are very good. The instructors i had were excellent teachers, and the literature about safely handling firearms was thorough and well-written. No talk about policy, at least at my classes. In that sense, they're doing good things at the grassroots level.

But their policies and political advocay are irresponsible, and their top leadership are a bunch of crazy dangerous kooks!

...isn't she? I hope she keeps up with her physical therapy and continues to recover more and more. If she keeps going as good as she has up to this point, it wouldn't surprise me to see her back in the House or the Senate (a replacement for Sen. McKain?) some day. Her continuing recovery is an absolute miracle. Love to Gabby! (And you too, onehandle.)

As is clear in the photo, Mark Kelly continues to be an exemplar for "Stand By Your WoMan".

When one has the great fortune to know, to associate with, to be the life companion of, a strong, wonderful woman, there is no greater satisfaction than helping her achieve the goals in which you both believe.
