PEMA LEVY 2:56 PM EST, THURSDAY JANUARY 3, 2013
Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) urged Illinois lawmakers on Thursday to support a marriage equality bill currently pending in the state legislature.
I dont often write to express my position on issues before the General Assembly. But as a citizen of this Land of Lincoln I want to be clearly on record in regard to an issue of historic importance, Durbin wrote in an open letter to members of the Illinois General Assembly.
I believe those whom God has brought to this Earth with a different sexual orientation and who seek a loving relationship in the eyes of the law should be given that opportunity. I urge you to vote for Marriage Equality in Illinois so that our state can be part of the emerging national consensus on this issue of justice.

Don't get me wrong, I think he's doing the right thing after doing a much worse wrong than he can ever correct in his lifetime.
It's just that no one is forgiven for voting for DOMA while DOMA is the law of the land.

Senate Committee Passes Gay Marriage Bill
Gay marriage cleared a first hurdle to becoming law in Illinois on Thursday afternoon after gaining approval in a state Senate committee.
The action by the Senate Executive Committee means the bill can now move to the full Senate. It wasn't clear when that vote would take place.
If the measure becomes law, Illinois would become the 10th state to approve same-sex marriage. It would be the first state to adopt it after momentum built following several successes across the nation in the November election and public encouragement from President Barack Obama.
