Let teachers carry concealed weapons, Texas Gov. Rick Perry tells Tarrant County tea party meeting

Source: Dallas News

Texas Gov. Rick Perry indicated Monday that he supported allowing teachers and administrators to carry concealed handguns in response to the Connecticut school massacre that left 20 children dead.

Local school districts should decide their own policies, Perry said. But if someone has obtained a concealed-handgun license, he said, “you should be able to carry your handgun anywhere in this state.” He clarified that private property owners should be allowed to impose their own restrictions.

Perry was asked about calls for stricter gun control laws Monday at a tea party forum in North Richland Hills. Perry said that he believed lawmakers should consider mental health issues as well as ways to make schools safer.

“It appears that this was a young man who was very disturbed,” Perry said.

I can't imagine many teachers in a room with thirty kids is going to want that burden/liability either. What stupidity. The warmongers want us at war with each other.

...and why not? The Governor's office is responsible for much of the terrorism afflicting Texans these days.

Perry is such a pandering asshole. I think there's a good chance that he will NOT be re-elected Governor this time around.

David Pakman interviews a "pro-guns in public places" supporter:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/101786988

He tells that the Oregon mall shooting was stopped by someone with a "illegal" gun (he was packing even though the mall had a "no guns" policy--a "minor infraction" as he puts it). When he pulls his gun, the shooter sees it and kills himself.

Oh yeah? So these monsters will kill themselves when they see someone pull a gun on them? With that logic, let's all carry plastic "toy guns" that look real. They are harmless but when pulled on someone shooting with a real gun, that shooter will kill themself.

Yeah, that'll work!

Don't tread on me makes me SICK ! The tea party makes me sick. They need to go to work and STFU. This tea party is the base for most of these nut cases. The repubs are the major cause for all that is wrong with our country. Perry is just the tip of the ice burg.

What harm could that do? Every morning they would bundle up, grab their books and holster their Glocks. That would maximize the firepower in every classroom which seems to be the aim of some. Recess might get a little dicey but gun sales would really go up. You could have a Pokemon Glock or a Barbie Sig Sauer. Think of the fun.

Sarcasm aside, arming teachers enshrines guns by placing them in the hands of role models whose job it is to teach. Having our kids see firearms every day in the classroom would solidify firearms as the preeminent icon of American culture.

Lecture notes? Check. Chalk? Check. 9mm Glock with 30-round magazine? Fuck no.

I'm there to educate them, not to kill them. The very idea of me having a blazing gun battle in the classroom is as absurd as it gets. I know the gun nuts like to fantasize about that sort of thing, but me, I prefer to die from old age, not a hail of lead.

could have fit the mold of one of today's right-wing gun nuts. Plus, he was always putting down women as inferior human beings. One day, during the following summer break, the local paper's headlines featured a story about a man who had shot his wife, four children, and himself. Guess who?

I would have been SO grateful to have this lunatic carry a concealed gun to school.
