Anonymous Hacks The Westboro Baptist Church: Posts All Their Personal Information
Source: The Inquisitr
The hacking collective known as Anonymous renewed their war on the Westboro Baptist Church today. After the haters from the infamous church posted their intentions to picket the funerals of the twenty children killed in the shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School, Anonymous responded by re-posting the personal and professional information for members of the church on the Internet. Now the general public can contact the church members directly and tell them what they think about people who would desecrate the funerals of murdered children.
Westboro Baptist Church has been irritating Americans for years with venom filled message about their demented version of God. According to the many closely related and intermarried members of the Phelps family who make up the majority of the congregation of the so-called church, God enjoys killing children and soldiers. They constantly proclaim God hates homosexuals and plans to destroy America for not following the Westboro Baptist Churchs twisted version of Christianity. The incredible obsession with homosexuality expressed by Fred and family seems to many as a sure fire case of thou dost protest too much.
Anonymous has been after the Westboro Baptist Church for several months now, hacking their websites repeatedly. Recently, they accused the church of creating a fake letter from the hacking group in order to trick other hackers into attacking the website. Anonymous warned their supporters the church planned to harvest internet addresses and sue people. Suing people is apparently the primary activity of the Westboro Baptist Church when they arent screaming hate at funerals.
Of course, Westboro denied the charges and taunted Anonymous as incompetent hackers. They claimed their website was protected by God. Big mistake. A few days later, while a Westboro spokeswoman was boasting about how the church foiled Anonymous on a radio talk show, an Anonymous spokesman called in and hacked the churchs website in real time on the air.

(180 posts)a "twisted" form of Christianity. Bring back Moses and other Biblical figures from the dead, and I bet they side with hateful evangelicals or the WBC before other Christians. Their basic premise, that God is punishing us for turning away from him is supported by things he did in the Bible.

(180 posts)So, at best, claiming WBC practices a "twisted" form of Christianity is a guess. At worst, it's denial. God had no issues with ordering the killing of children for various reasons, including to punish tribes who turned away from him or worshiping other gods, so the WBC is not saying anything crazy when they claim tragedies like this are god's way of punishing us (I mean, relative to scripture).
Point being: let's avoid the whole "WBC doesn't practice true Christianity" or "practices twisted form of Christianity" crap when we talk about how sick and evil these people are. It's like we feel guilty if we don't add that silly addendum whenever we talk about them.

(163 posts)I am very grateful to the hackers and bless their activities. A cult of very fragile and demented minds are the Westboro Baptists. Oneday soon the Truth will reveal itself and they will no longer spread this hateful venom upon innocent bystanders.. Truth will set them free or Imprison them. Humor is the best way to respond to them. Perhaps someone will outdoo them in a display of public notice. I have watched videos of them and they seem so childish and just plain silly.

(36,827 posts)I have no doubt it's extremely common among the religious nut crowd. Most just aren't completely stupid enough to promote their ideas like Westboro. My dad was a Unitarian minister so we were familiar with other church leaders in the area. Naturally he loathed my dad and probably would have killed him if he thought he could get away with it. These people actually think homosexuality is a plague that needs to be stamped out and their level of hate is unfathomable to most humans.

(36,827 posts)Some have claimed Thomas Jefferson was a Unitarian, but I can't find any evidence that he ever directly affiliated with the Unitarian church. There may have been one or two card carrying Unitarian founding fathers, but I don't know who. Many, if not most of the primary founding fathers were Deists, which is not really what Unitarianism is although it's certainly not incompatible with Unitarianism. It's hard not to be compatible with the Unitarianism though. We had atheist members of our congregation when I was a kid.

(36,827 posts)The only difference is that most of the mainstream knows damn well that declaring such thoughts would turn public opinion against them. So they speak in coded messages which really aren't that hard to decipher.
When so-called mainstream religious leaders like Huckabee stand up and claim god left the classroom, and have made their views on homosexuality clear, their intent is clear. They view homosexuality the same as pedophilia and necrophilia. They preach that AIDS patients should be isolated and abandoned. It's exactly how they think.

(10,497 posts)saying that religion as a whole is responsible for more deaths and abuse than anything else. How many wars over religion? Look at the Middle East! Israel, the Jewish people vs all Muslims. Us Christians supporting Israel. Muslims divided into Shite vs. Sunni. There are many other examples. The bad outweighs the good. I will agree that most religious people do not take it that far, or are pacifists. I will agree that churches, synagogues, temples, and mosques do good works. But all of that is outweighed by the violence and harm that they do in the name of (insert your god/God here)!

(19,926 posts)While I completely disagree with them I can see their hate filled logic in picketing a gay person's funeral since that person was represented something their tiny little minds can't deal with, but why on earth are they picketing the kids' funerals? I don't see the point they are trying to make.
AntiFascist
(12,792 posts)many of us did not see the logic of picketing a gay person's funeral, especially by a group that calls itself Christian. Too bad it takes something like this to wake people up.
cui bono
(19,926 posts)That they are following their own hate filled logic? That has nothing to do with my feelings, it's a direct correlation. They hate gay people so they picket gay people's funerals.
I think you completely misunderstood me if you think what I said meant that I in any way felt what they do is justified. I simply said that it fits their "logic", and following that, picketing kids' funerals makes no sense as it would imply that they hate kids. Therefore, I didn't see what they were trying to accomplish by picketing the kids' funerals. If they really do/did, the backlash will come back to bite them.
AntiFascist
(12,792 posts)even most of the hate-filled evangelists would think twice about dancing on dead peoples' graves at their funerals.
The twisted logic of the Westboro Baptist Church is actually fairly easy to understand, but it really seems to apply to all Americans equally. In short, they believe that because America is beginning to support equal rights for gay people, many of the bad things that happen to Americans, be it hurricanes or what have you, occur because America is turning away from God.
I understand your point of view and my anger isn't directed at you specifically, but I am a bit perturbed by the general attitude that this particular brand of hate, when it is directed specifically at gays, is somehow mundane and not noteworthy.

(30,816 posts)We know they hate gays, so that makes sense in their sick world. But what point are they trying to prove by picketing the childrens' funerals?
AntiFascist
(12,792 posts)they see that the tide is turning on gay rights, where a majority of Americans are now beginning to support equality in marriage specifically. They see this as America turning away from God, allowing all that is evil to possess the nation. Anytime Americans die tragically, for example soldiers being killed in Iraq, they will blame it on this. Unfortunately, its not just crackpots like the WBC who have this belief. Pat Robertson will probably be making a similar statement any time now.
