Calif Gov. Brown being treated for prostate cancer

JULIET WILLIAMS | December 12, 2012 06:17 PM EST |

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California Gov. Jerry Brown is being treated with radiation for early stage prostate cancer, his office announced Wednesday.

The 74-year-old Brown is receiving a short course of conventional radiotherapy for "localized prostate cancer," the statement said.

Brown's "prognosis is excellent, and there are not expected to be any significant side effects," University of California, San Francisco oncologist Eric Small said.

The radiation treatment will be completed the week of Jan. 7, and Brown will continue to work a full schedule, the statement said.

and some of the literature we had on the subject said, "Most men will die with Prostate cancer - not from it". My hubby had surgery and radiation therapy and his PSA's levels are nearly 0 which is optimum. Just one of the horrid things that happen when we get old!

I remember hearing her lame ads on AM radio 2+ years before the election: "What California needs are jobs, better education and lower taxes." Something insanely stupid like that. I recall thinking: "God. Here we go."
And all that money just couldn't do it.
(Side note: I believe the GOP has an over-saturation /hit early theory—hence all the GOP primary debates).

Get well soon, Governor!!!

Jerry Brown decriminalized homosexuality as his first act as Governor of California in the 1970's. To put that in perspective, decades later, it took a Supreme Court ruling to overturn the sodomy laws in the rest of the United States.

Jerry Brown appointed the first African-American and Latino to the California Supreme Court in the 1970's.

Jerry has been an advocate for women's rights all these many years and a woman's right to choose as sacrosanct.

Jerry Brown created the California Conservation Corp which President Clinton used as the model for Americorp.

Jerry Brown was green long before it was cool to be green.

Jerry Brown created the famous "Diamond Lanes" on California freeways way back in the 1970's which all the other states now call High Occupancy Lanes (HOV). Jerry did it, like so much, first.

Most recently he signed a bill to outlaw the abusive and destructive "therapy" of "curing" homosexuals in the Golden State. Governor Brown (I sure like calling him that once again) called such nonsense "quackery".

I have had to honor to work with him and to know him, albeit many years ago.

This news troubles me, but I know Governor Brown will face this with grit and with his great character that has made Californians love him.

Godspeed to Jerry and his wife, puppy and all the Brown family.
