Pelosi On Raising Medicare Eligibility Age: ‘Don’t Go There’

Source: TPM

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said Wednesday morning that she and other Democrats would "object" to raising the Medicare eligibility age in deficit reduction talks.

"Don't go there because it doesn't produce money," she said on "CBS This Morning." "Raising the retirement age does not get you that much money... so you're doing a bad thing when it comes to seniors and you're not achieving your goal" of lowering the deficit and improving the economy.

She said of potential reforms: "We're saying, 'does it work, is it fair or is it just a trophy for Republicans to take home?'"

"There's a recognition he may need our votes," Pelosi said of House Speaker John Boehner.

4. As usual, a shitty interview, failure to articulate easily understood arguments and talking points.

"Don't go there . . . because it doesn't produce money" could be the stupidest fucking response to a political interviewer's question possible.

Rambling, stuttering through another disastrous interview which should be the best opportunity to reach so many American viewers.

Then Norah spouts the Republican line and gets the side camera shot looking incredulous to more confusing rambling.

Then she let's the asshole on the left interrupt her train of thought.

Why refer to spending as "entitlements"? Why not say "social security" and "medicare?" The polls show that Americans don't want anyone messing with that.

And on and on and on.

Sure I would want a different word than entitlements used since the right has co-opted that word, but it is the correct word. If we the people stop using it in favor of social insurance, prepaid benefits, etc., our politicians will start using those words. Better yet instead of putting this up on an internet message board, write her a letter. But be more polite than you are here.

Perhaps temporarily 1% or 2% which they would immediately lower once they have power again, which is inevitable in a two party system.

Don't give them anything.

I perceive the President is on our side. The same can be said to him, "Don't go there." THe Presidency is suppose to be ours not against us. I do not separate what is gong on in Washington D.C. from what is going on on Michigan. I consider, the GOP has called an all out War against us. As far as I'm concern now, there should be no compromise now period! Shove it down the GOPs throat and destroy their Party once and for all! That is what I'm going to be working for now on. This is War! They are nothing but Terrorists to me!

12. Raising the Medicare age delays retirement

retirement for people who need to retire for health reasons, for example. Many people cope with a tough job just long enough to reach Medicare.

As Nancy Pelosi says, "Don't go there."

may not be the best, she IS representing the majority the way that we voted for.
President Obama is already willing to sacrifice seniors, right off the bat? That is bullshit. What about the bloated "defense" budget that is geared for war profiteers and disaster capitalism?
It is so early into Obama's second term. We have an opportunity to field a "peoples candidate" and three + years to garner support for him/her. We don't have to keep taking the people that the elite want us to choose from and then picking the lesser of two evils. Damn, we need to start now if we want to save our nations most vulnerable citizens.
I had really hoped for candidate Obama to become President Obama. Obama 2.0 is what many of us hoped we would get. Instead, it looks like another 4 years of corporate rule...

prior to such changes being passed. Keep the shouting to a minimum now, and then deal with the fallout after the fact.

17. Pelosi Sets ‘The Record Straight’ on Dem Budget Cuts, Entitlement Reform
Wed Dec 12, 2012, 05:34 PM
Dec 2012

Even as President Obama and GOP House Speaker John Boehner debate how to avoid the coming so-called fiscal cliff, and whether to raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans, Democrats already are on record with $1.6 trillion in proposed federal spending cuts and have enacted entitlement reform through the landmark 2010 healthcare reform law, according to House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi.
