Doha climate talks: US faces dilemma over final text

There has been a historic shift in the UN climate talks in Qatar, with the prospect of rich nations having to compensate poor nations for losses due to climate change.
The US has fiercely opposed the measure - it says the cost could be unlimited.
But after angry tussles throughout the night the principle of Loss and Damage is now in the final negotiating text.
Small island states at risk from inundation say they will walk out if the US vetoes the proposed deal.
The political stakes are high. The EU's position is not yet well defined, but soundings suggest that it can live with the text.

in the end, big oil knows that it will have to pay for helping to destroy this planet, big time. You can't tell me that big oil did not have scientific studies, long ago, that foretold of the damage of carbon emissions from their dirty product to our atmosphere. Big oil will never allow america to do the right thing. We americans depend on our personal transportation in a way that we will never give up. To start saving our planet civilized nations would have to move to mass transit, soon, big time. Only emergency vehicles would be driven. If the railroads can move tonnage in the most efficient manner, then do it! I know that the logistics of such a shift would be huge, yet something has to be done and soon. Please forgive my musings, just a little personal brainstorming on a huge problem for all of us. Small changes are going to help, hybrids ect. Yet it is not enough. Every form of personal transportation has to be electric. Yes to generate electricity some form of 'dirty' fuel must be used, yet it just seems to this layman that it would be sustainable if we REALLY went electric, all over the whole world. I'm a dreamer, I know.
Just sad at the damage we have done to mother earth. Yes I've called our nurturing planet this for decades. How much longer will she nurture us?
