J.C. Watts for RNC chair?

Source: politico

[div class="excerpt"]Former GOP Rep. J.C. Watts says he is being “encouraged” by supporters to run for chairman of the Republican National Committee, a move he says could broaden the party’s appeal to minorities.

Watts is not formally entering the race, and he is not critical of current RNC Chairman Reince Priebus, who has already announced he will second term in the post.

But Watts, an African-American conservative who served in the House from 1994-2002, said the GOP defeat on Election Day demonstrates that Republicans need to broaden their appeal to minority voters, and cannot continue on their current path if the party is to be successful in presidential races.

“My concern right now, and I don’t say this necessarily as a candidate [for RNC chairman], my concern is that as a Republican, every single Republican in America ought to be concerned about what has happened in 2008 and 2012,” Watts said in an interview with POLITICO. “In this business, if you’re not growing, you’re dying.”

Why don't they find a black woman, so they can pander to both groups?

(nb - Watts ended up endorsing GINGRICH in the GOP Primary...)

Watts makes more sense than Steele but he is still just as crazy. Now folks, if the Dems had a chair by the same of Peince Priebus which sounds totally not American, the GOPers through Fake news, Rush and Beck and morning Joe would have called him a terrorist - LOL

It's not just having someone from a minority demographic in a high profile position. It's picking the best person from among the largest sample possible, and if that person happens to be african-american or asian-american or female or gay or lebanese or speaks portuguese, well, then that should be the person. It's not at all about finding a token person who can make the appearance of doing the job.

The GOP still thinks we Black people (and all other minorties) can be fooled by a token Black and other token minorities? It's more than that guys, it's your policies that keeps us away!

They will never get it.

insult us, implying that all we want is a handout and suggesting that we only vote for black politicians because they're black. It's offensive. It's insulting. It's absolutely ridiculous.

But, please...let them keep at it. The Republican Party will destroy itself from within.

As campaign donations dried up and that is a primary performance measurement. Was that failure a result of a failed Chairman or wealthy donors shying away from giving to a black man. I know of no effective way to measure/allocate blame. That is a question the GOP will have to grapple with.

they think that all they have to do is put yet another black face in that position and blacks would be so dumb as go against their own self interests and join. They didn't do so when Michael Steele was their chair, what makes them think they'd do so under jcwatts?

No, the question isn't why don't they find a black woman, the question is why don't they change their policies and the racist prevailing notions of their party? Maybe then they'd be taken a bit more seriously than they are now. Right now, they are inhabited by racist tea bagging scum and no self loving black person would ever permit themselves to be in the company of such evil creatures.

No, what they need to start with first is to get someone who isn't trained in racist dog whistling. Once they've got that under control, then they can work on reworking their party's policies and platform.

now the repugs are going to allow this blackface(pun intended) token to be trotted out as the new face of the rethugs. What pandering bullshit this is. Didn't see or hear from him the whole election cycle. Now all the sudden, it's a rethug, "see, we got black people." They really do not have a clue as to how insulting that is to people who think.
