New York Judge Arthur Engoron on Monday accepted the $175 million bond former President Trump posted to appeal his civil fraud case, but the judge imposed several new conditions to ensure sufficient cash funds remain available.
Why it matters: Approving the bond for the appeal will prevent New York Attorney General Letitia James from seizing Trump's assets or freezing his bank accounts while he fights the judgment.

The big picture: While Engoron allowed the bond to stand, Trump and Knight Specialty Insurance Company agreed to meet several new requirements, per a spokesperson from the New York State Attorney General's office.
These include that Knight Specialty Insurance Company will retain "exclusive control" of the $175 million account, and the company and Trump will provide a monthly account statement certifying that there are sufficient cash funds for the bond.

(4,274 posts)document from the financial institution holding the account stating that Knight Specialty has "exclusive control". I don't think we can take Knight's or the Orange Ruski's word for it that account control has changed.
I think the monthly statement is letting them off too easy. The statement filing is fine but there should have been a requirement that any withdrawals/transfers/debits be notified to the court appointed watchdog that is in place already. I believe that it would also be prudent regarding Knight Specialty themselves to require them to furnish the court proof that they have paid, or when scheduled to pay, the state of NY the premium tax that is levied on surplus lines coverage issued by non-admitted in NY insurers.
But we got this far and so if we get the legal affirmation from the financial institution that the account control has changed to the court ordered "exclusive control" by Knight Specialty then we have to hope the monthly statements are enough.
