MTG says Johnson needs to "do the right thing" and resign, or be ousted

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) confirmed she hasn't backed off her plan to potentially oust House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) after the passage of a foreign aid package on Saturday.
The big picture: Greene said after Saturday's vote that she would wait to call for a vote to vacate, but said Sunday that Johnson's choices are to resign or be vacated.
"He needs to do the right thing, to resign and allow us to move forward in a controlled process. If he doesn't do so, he will be vacated," Greene said in an interview on Fox News' "Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo." When questioned if that meant she would file the motion to vacate, Greene said it was coming "regardless of what Mike Johnson decides to do."
Worth noting: While Greene wants to force Johnson's hand, some Democrats have backed the speaker and indicated he should keep his job.
The motion to vacate has only been successfully used once to remove a House speaker with Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) in October. During McCarthy's ouster, every House Democrat voted with Republicans. Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif) said Sunday in an appearance on ABC's "This Week" that he would vote to keep Johnson in office.

(308 posts)Moscow Margie is afraid to force a vote, because if it fails, then she loses ALL power. So she is trying to bluff to get her way. Will be interesting if she forces a vote -- may very well blow up in her face. No more media coverage either on the has-been.

One wonders how much buyers remorse there is in her district. There must be some sane Republican voters in it.

(10,274 posts)"House Democrats saving Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) is becoming an increasingly regular occurrence, but they're not about to let him off easy...That dynamic will be key if a group of right-wing Republican hardliners moves forward with trying to oust Johnson as speaker."
"Democrats have long suggested they would save Johnson on the motion to vacate, and some are eager for that exact scenario to play out...For most Democrats, the displays of Republican chaos and dysfunction serve the purpose of putting them back in the majority come November."

(17,390 posts)This is just the most craven type of pandering by some Republicans. They get Russian social media sock puppet support, which rides on efforts to stir up racism, xenophobia, and misogyny and in return, they push pro-Putin support.

We should ignore her.
I prefer to hear what Rep Khanna has to say.
