Donald Trump Suffers Brutal Florida Primary Vote Against Him
Source: Newsweek

Donald Trump suffered a blow in Tuesday's primary in Florida, a state he only narrowly won in the 2020 presidential election, after thousands of Republicans refused to vote for him.
While the former president won the primary with 910,857 votes, 81.2 percent of the overall share, some 197,000 people, or 17.8 percent, voted for either Nikki Haley or Ron DeSantis, despite both candidates having dropped out of the race.
The results suggest the former president is losing support in Florida compared with the previous election in 2020. That year, he won about 94 percent of the state vote in the primary.
The Republican went on to take the state in 2020 by a slim margin, securing 51.2 percent of the vote to Joe Biden's 47.9 percent. Newsweek contacted a representative for Trump by email to comment on this story.

ALL of the M$M should be using blaring headlines like this against 45 and also include phrases like "WARNING SIGNS" to highlight what just happened yesterday in the same manner that they celebrated "uncommitted" against Biden and Democrats.

(43,161 posts)Biden needs to prevent inroads to his totals in swing states and among minority voters. If things are looking up in OH and FL we are making progress. Take those 2 states and it's just about game over. But of course, we're 8 months out, lots can happen.

(128,979 posts)I don't expect to take OH or FL this go-around but the Haley vote seems to have been consistent across the states that still have her on the ballot and that potentially indicates a similar % in support of her (or other non-45 candidate) in other states (like here in PA) that have yet to vote.
I.e., even if 1/2 of those voters either leave the top of the ticket blank, stay home, or vote for Biden, that helps to solidify the swing states to hold for Biden this year.

(23,233 posts)At this moment, our odds of holding the Senate are not good. (and we can't blame it on gerrymandering--it's just luck of the cycle, when more Dems are up for election, and we don't have good chances in some key states.) I think we can take the House, though--it seems people are tiired of GOPee incompetence, and a lot of seats will flip to D. I hope for the best, but preparing for the worst.

(92,190 posts)we want to hold onto the Senate.
Those are the following states:
Arizonia
Ohio
Montana
Those are must wins for us to even have a chance in the Senate.
I we are able to pull off Texas against Cruz, and Florida, against Scott, which are rated as likely republican, that would change the entire dynamic, and help us with the probable loss of Manchin.
Anyway you look at it this is going to be a very close election, and require a lot of work and luck.
It is still hard for me to believe that we have a country that has presented a racist, sexist, bigot, and someone who tried to overthrow our Democracy as a viable candidate.
We will need a massive voter turnout, especially among Democrats, women, minorities and young people to vote straight Democratic up and down the ballot, along with halley supporters or republicans who will not vote for trump.
It is far from hopeless as long as we have a good turnout.

(16,399 posts)Sherrod Brown, who Lawrence had on as a guest, is running for reelection to his 4th term in the Senate. His opponent, Bernie Moreno, is an insane Trumper who supports all the usual Trumpy stuff, including being anti-abortion.
Remember the vote in Ohio to enshrine reproductive rights in the state constitution? I don't know much about Moreno, but it seems to me that his position on abortion will not make him popular with a lot of Ohio voters, especially women.
Here's a sample of Moreno's blather, from last month: MAGA Candidate Says Women Need Help With Strollers, Not Abortion
I'll be biting my nails until the election results are in, but I feel pretty good about Brown's chances.

(5,842 posts)Realistically, the only candidate still running should be getting upwards of 90% of the votes in primaries.
Getting only 80% when you're the only one running in your party is absolutely HORRIBLE.

Adam Kinzinger taunted "Chief Whiney" over results in Tuesday's primaries.
Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) said Donald Trumps victory in Tuesday nights Republican primaries across multiple states comes with some serious red flags.
While the former president won handily in Florida, Ohio, Arizona, Kansas and Illinois, the number of people who turned out to vote against him was unusually high ― especially given that all of his rivals have quit the race, Kinzinger said.
Trump won about 81% of the vote in Florida, 79% in Ohio, 81% in Illinois, 78% in Arizona and 76% in Kansas, based on results early Wednesday from The Associated Press.
Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who dropped out two weeks ago, won 14 to 20% of the vote over those states.

(128,979 posts)It's fascinating to see a consistent percent who have voted for "someone else" (mostly Haley who has dropped out), across multiple states.
And it's coming out to be twice as many (%-wise) who did this against 45, than the media narrative's "uncommitted" voters against Biden.
But when it comes to the M$M's reports on this? *crickets*

Two in 10 to as many as three in 10 Republican primary voters in Ohio continue to resist Donald Trumps presidential candidacy -- and among those supporting Nikki Haley, nearly half say theyd back Joe Biden in November, according to preliminary exit poll results from the Republican primary.
While majorities in preliminary exit poll data express loyalty toward Trump, the extent of intraparty challenges may matter in whats expected to be a close contest in November. Despite his having sewn up the nomination, 20% of Ohio GOP primary voters would be dissatisfied with Trump as the nominee, 22% say he lacks the temperament to serve effectively, and 28% say he wouldnt be fit for office if convicted of a crime.
At the end of the day, 18% say they wouldnt support Trump in November, with 10% of that number preferring Biden and 8% saying they wouldnt vote for either. Nationally, 6% of Republicans voted for Biden in 2020. Nonparticipation by some Republicans would be a further risk for Trump.
Much of the criticism of Trump comes from Haley voters, who turned out despite her departure from the race. (Absentee voting in Ohio opened Feb. 21, two weeks before Haley suspended her campaign.) Among her supporters, 88% would be dissatisfied with Trump as the nominee, 91% say he lacks the temperament for office, and 88% say hed be unfit if convicted. Eight in 10 say they wouldnt vote for him in the general election, with 47% preferring Biden and 32% saying they wouldnt vote for either candidate. Just 18% of Haley voters say theyd vote for Trump in the fall. Sixty percent of Haley voters also call the Republican Party too conservative, as did 19% of GOP primary voters in these preliminary exit poll results.

The 2020 election saw surges of voters for both parties (thankfully more for (D)s than (R)s by a significant amount - at least for the total popular vote) and I think that (R) surge will be history.

Democrats in FL have their OTHER PRIMARIES scheduled to be held AUGUST 20, 2024 based on this - https://ballotpedia.org/Democratic_Party_primaries_in_Florida,_2024
I didn't realize that some states separated them out like that until I saw that was done for Colorado since they were moved up to be an early state in the primary process, but ONLY for the Presidential primary (other races optional based on the state law, including the Congressional races as some of us have been monitoring Boebert's race).
