Over Lunch, Obama And Romney Pledge To Stay In Touch

Source: TPM

IGOR BOBIC 3:18 PM EST, THURSDAY NOVEMBER 29, 2012

President Obama hosted his former Republican challenger Mitt Romney for lunch that lasted over an hour at the White House on Thursday. The two men discussed the role of America's leadership in the world, pledging to keep in touch in the future. White turkey chili and Southwestern grilled chicken salad was served. Full readout from the White House:

This afternoon, President Obama and Governor Romney visited for an hour over lunch in the Private Dining Room adjacent to the Oval Office. Governor Romney congratulated the President for the success of his campaign and wished him well over the coming four years. The focus of their discussion was on America's leadership in the world and the importance of maintaining that leadership position in the future. They pledged to stay in touch, particularly if opportunities to work together on shared interests arise in the future. Their lunch menu included white turkey chili and Southwestern grilled chicken salad.

I was reading an article about that earlier today.

Apparently Bush and Kerry never spoke again after Kerry called to concede, which is odd since Kerry was still a senator.

The exceptions, of course, are Clinton and Bush I, and Carter and Gerald Ford, who became very close friends. It seems like incumbent presidents who lose are more likely to develop relationships with the presidents who beat them than if one of the candidates has never been president.

Here's an article with some more interesting facts about this:

And I would have served humble pie - or at least had Humble Pie playing in the private dining room, along with "I'm a Loser" by the Beatles, and "Beautiful Loser" by Bob Seger! Sorry, but I'm not quite ready to let bygones be bygones, considering all the insulting things wrongney and his ranks said about the President and other Dems.

Obama can forgive, and he's a classy man so of course he will. I can't just yet.

Nov 2012

If it hasn't happened already, Romney is no longer important to the Republicans.
Why should Romney be important to President Obama and the Democrats?
Why would President Obama want to stay in touch?

Romney needs to be close to his rich friends to avoid getting shafted by his rich friends.
His rich friends won't attend a Presidential luncheon unless they need or want something.
Romney can't afford to upset his rich friends and get chummy with President Obama.
Why would Romney want to stay in touch?

Be worried when Romney wants to get in touch with President Obama.
It means Romney and his rich friends want or need something.

If Romney and Obama have ANY shared interests, then Obama should not have been our candidate.
