President Joe Biden on Monday quickly slapped down Donald Trumps suggestion in a CNBC interview that there is a lot that can be done in terms of cutting the government programs Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.
Not on my watch, Biden said in a social media post on X in response to a video of Trumps comment that was posted by his reelection campaign.
It was the latest quick response by Biden and his campaign to something said by the former president, who as the presumptive Republican nominee is on track to face Biden in November in a rematch of the 2020 election. The White House also issued a statement calling the idea of cutting Social Security and Medicaid exactly backwards.
Trump was asked Monday by CNBCs Joe Kernen on Squawk Box if he had changed his outlook on how to handle entitlements: Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

(23,105 posts)She doesn't believe the other things about him, but she does get this and so won't vote for him. She won't vote for Biden either, but at least it's one vote tsf has lost due to his reich wing idiocy on Medicare and SS.

(478 posts)We all know that we are defenseless against Republicans.
Eventually they will gut SS and Medicaid.

(29,067 posts)as long as there's a Democratic President in office and Millions of Senior Citizens in both parties loudly pushing back..
There's a reason it's been called "The Third Rail" of American Politics.

(45,454 posts)I bet your typical MAGA voter couldn't tell you how that ratio effects them.
When stock market and corporate profits and employment are at record highs, maybe Biden's job killing socialist policies are not the reason for the high costs of groceries and gas. "nobody wants to work anymore" in farming and food processing is probably not because migrants are stealing those jobs.
Tax these "job creators" since they created too many jobs.

(111,275 posts)(well, maybe not in NYC or most of CA, but everywhere else). That increases the contributions to SS and Medicare. No need to cut then, except rich pigs like TFG are wedded to the bullshit of neoliberalism that says keeping old people from starving is somehow a bad thing.
The richest are way past due for a diet.

(2,823 posts)earned or "unearned" as FICA. The Hedge Funders and Vulture Capitalists who never draw a "wage" but instead live off other forms of their "working" money should have every dollar taxed up to and including the same amount as the person who works at McDonalds. That's the quickest and fairest way I can see to ensure the solvency. Of course, it would be nice to strip that artificial "max" from the law, as well. While 100% of our income... at least, for most of us it's our entire income... they get away with paying very little or nothing at all.
We are suppose to have a fair and progressive tax system. That concept has been lost through the years by adopting loophole after loophole in favor of those with the money to buy the lawyers, financiers, and politicians who will support their cause. Meanwhile, we're kept at bay by having to worry about paying the monthly bills and eating. All of this adds up to neither fair nor progressive. Yet it IS a step towards their ultimate goal of a paying nothing at all in taxes of any kind, period. What did the Madame say? Taxes are only for the little people?
Gods... sometimes it seems like their whole purpose is to create (and then incite) class conflicts. You don't think they'd have a purpose with that, do you? (LOL)

(11,425 posts)they'll steal everything in the government accounts and then go for the real estate and national park land. If it looks like we are going to go fascist, I would take every penny you have out of the US banks, may want to cash out of the stock market.

(382 posts)Some will vote against their self-interest.
I remember posters during the ACA debate that said: Government keep your hands off my Medicare.
The irony was lost on the holder of the sign.

(66,388 posts)But I really fucking hate that slogan; "Not on MY watch!"
I know it's supposed to sound tough and determined. But it just sounds like the person only cares about failure if it can be blamed on him.
