'Several' Republicans Backing Discharge Petition to Force Vote on Ukraine Aid
Source: Meidas Touch
Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) has disclosed that "several" unnamed House Republicans are prepared to file a discharge petition to force a vote on the supplemental foreign aid bill that has passed the Senate but is being blocked by Speaker Mike Johnson in the House.
All bills in the House must first pass through the Office of the Speaker, who then assigns bills to committees for consideration. As with what is happening with the Senate foreign aid bill, the Speaker can kill a bill by simply holding it and not assigning it to a committee. However, House members can force the Speaker to release a bill by filing a discharge petition with 218 signatures.
Fitzpatrick told CNN's Jake Tapper Tuesday, "I wouldn't necessarily phrase this as going around anybody, this is just to add a pressure point." When pressed on who in the Republican conference would sign a discharge petition, Fitzpatrick refused to name names but said that he had spoken to "several" Republicans that were behind it.
"We are trying to add an additional pressure point on something that has to happen," Fitzpatrick said. Fitzpatrick said he filed a request to have the discharge petition fast tracked.

(5,586 posts)The Israel aid is included in that bill, and some of the caucus will not vote for it because of that fact. I suspect we'll need 25+ Repubs to support the bill.
