Gov. Jim Pillen late Monday approved a state disaster that allows funds from the Governors Emergency Fund to be used to assist in the response to a wildfire in west-central Nebraska.
A fire prompted evacuations from North Platte to north of Gothenburg Monday amid high winds and red-flag warnings.
At the request of county officials, Nebraskas Incident Management Team, as well as members of the states Wildland Incident Response Assistant Team, have been deployed and will assist local responders in the coming days.
Two National Guard UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters will be deployed to the fire and begin operations to drop water on the fire. Additional aircraft will be used to map the fire to assist teams as they plan the best strategy to fight the fire.
Flames can been seen from the side of a hill Monday east of Twin Lakes Road about five miles north of North Platte.

(8,844 posts)about the 400 volunteer Fire Depts in Nebraska...It's one hour long.....
It covers the older volunteer fire fighters and EMT's finally getting too old, and the young adults not volunteering, it covers the lack of financial support from the small towns and counties, it covers the lack of EMS across rural Nebraska, and lastly it covers their newest nightmare: WILD FIRES, and their total inability to even begin to fight them.......
I have to imagine this is the same across all of Rural America............
