2 police officers and 1 firefighter killed responding to a domestic incident outside Minneapolis, governor says

Source: CNN

Two police officers and a firefighter are dead and other officers were injured after responding to a domestic incident in Burnsville, Minnesota, according to the state’s governor.

“Horrific news from Burnsville. While responding to a call of a family in danger, two police officers and one firefighter lost their lives, and other officers were injured,” Gov. Tim Walz posted online.

“We must never take for granted the bravery and sacrifices our police officers and first responders make every day. My heart is with their families today and the entire State of Minnesota stands with Burnsville,” Walz said. The governor added that flags would be flown at half-mast across Minnesota on Monday and the state Department of Public Safety is “coordinating with local law enforcement to conduct an investigation.”

1. Ah another well regulated Militia member contributing to our collective security

I really hate conservatives and all gun freaks. I'm ok with gun ownership, with more licensing and insurance than heavy trucks. I'd also like some kind of collective responsibility where they all have to be part of a militia group and on call to serve in our collective security. That way legitimate hunters and those who need the guns for work and such will put in the effort but louts and kids won't be able to get them.

City identifies 2 officers, 1 paramedic killed in Burnsville, Minnesota; suspect also dead

Two police officers and a paramedic were shot and killed in Burnsville Sunday morning, authorities said, and the man who shot them is also dead.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said it is investigating. The BCA did not say how the shooter died.

Burnsville city officials identified the victims as officers Paul Elmstrand and Matthew Ruge and firefighter/paramedic Adam Finseth.

They were responding to a home on the 12600 block of 33rd Avenue South, inside of which an armed man was reportedly barricaded with family members.

9. NBC News coverage just pathetic

The NBC Nightly News tonight with Kate Snow has this story as their lead story, and after all the somber voices and much video of fellow soldiers all lined up, shoulder-to-shoulder in tribute, and after the crying police chief saying it was a really tough day, and after pics of a shot-up armored van, and after video of parked cars on an overpass in tribute (?), they didn't say one fucking word about what happened to the shooter.

I couldn't believe it. The simplest news basics tossed aside because of the sadness and tragedy? Was the shooter still barricaded? Who knows? We have to focus on the crying cops. At least the children, oh, the children, are safe tonight. Kate?

Unbelievably bad, amateurish coverage.

I had to watch the segment twice, it was so poorly done. Geez. We did better news coverage at my college TV station.
