New York Judge Arthur Engoron demanded answers from the former presidents lawyers in a new email suggesting Trump is in even more trouble, The Daily Beasts Jose Pagliery reports.
The New York Times reported last week that longtime former Trump Organization chief financial officer Allen Weisselberg is in talks with Manhattan prosecutors to plead guilty to perjury after a Forbes article discredited his claims about Trumps inflated penthouse apartment value. Weisselberg was abruptly pulled from the stand in Trumps fraud trial after the article was published.
As the presiding magistrate, the trier of fact, and the judge of credibility, I of course want to know whether Mr. Weisselberg is now changing his tune, and whether he is admitting he lied under oath in my courtroom at this trial, Engoron wrote in an email to Trumps legal team and the New York attorney generals office.
Engoron also noted that Weisselbergs lies could be used to completely toss out everything he said in defense of the companyand even allow the judge to make negative inferences about the Trump Organizations fraudulent conduct, according to Pagliery.

(32,645 posts)Why did prosecutors assume Allen Weisselberg would tell the truth about anything?
he testified as part of an earlier plea agreement (I believe for a reduced sentence the first go-around). Now he's doing another plea deal...

I need a scoreboard to keep track.

(129,096 posts)I know if Weisselberg does agree to plead guilty to perjury, then I expect he will have to really "give up the goods" more than he did the last time.
Weisselberg did actually serve time for his own role and crimes associated with the financial fraud (he took the initial hit for the Org).
