'Inflection point': Gov. Ron DeSantis sends Florida National, State Guard to Texas
Source: USA Today
Gov. Ron DeSantis is sending Florida National Guard and State Guard members to Texas to assist with placing razor wire along the southern border, DeSantis announced Thursday.
The Supreme Court ruled last week that the federal government had the power to remove razor wire and other barriers the Texas government erected at the border, but Texas National Guard continued placing the wire last week.
Florida will send up to 1,000 National Guard members and State Guard volunteers to assist Texas "relatively shortly."
The goal is to help Texas fortify this border, help them strengthen the barricades, help them add barriers, help them add the wire that they need to so that we can stop this invasion once and for all, DeSantis said from Jacksonvilles Cecil Airport Thursday morning. And the states have to band together.

(24,303 posts)to help another governor force a confrontation with federal border patrol agents.
He wants a war with the federal government and just a few weeks ago he wanted to be president of that federal government.
This man shouldn't be president of an HOA.

(14,104 posts)What's the daily cost of keeping 1000 guard members in Texas. Let's see...150,000 a night lodging, another 100,000 per diem. Vehicle costs; fuel, maintenance etc. Let's round it off a 2 million a week.!

(1,138 posts)After DeSantis revived the volunteer force in 2022, the size of the State Guard was expanded from up to 400 members to 1,500 members last year, and the Legislature increased its funding from $10 million to $107.6 million, including covering the costs of five aircraft and boats.

(14,104 posts)they have to be paid per diem and lodging costs. The border towns will make a fortune off this, just like they did when Texas sent all the state troopers there. The McAllen airport hotels were full of them then.

(110 posts)...the best way. I think it will be effective too. May take some time, but it'll get through that Republicons refused to fix the border with their own demands. Keep saying it. I would bet Dems are going to pound this message too.

(5,444 posts)He can declare an emergency and move federal troops there pushing out the state troops-killing 2 birds with one stone: saying he wants to fix the border but Congress won't act and at the same time neutralizing Abbott and DeSantis.

(3,707 posts)Biden could also Federalize the National Guards, because "invasion"; or so it is said in Texas and Florida and GOP middle-America.
Then a massive Federal sign them up, bus them out, where are workers needed. Those with family go directly there; the masses make new houses in neighborhoods, with Federal wood, nails and paint.
Farmers here, wood cutters there; know how to butcher? We have legal jobs for you. Federal money to teach English because English is what the clumsy neighbors want. And roofs overhead, and blown down trees removed, bridges and roads rebuilt, so much to make and do and fix and repair, here and there.
The immigrants WANT to be reborn here. Others were forced to be born here. Who is really willing to work for the American dream?

(5,843 posts)... they are right now working on a bill to do exactly that. Make Congress do their damn jobs. Don't put this on Biden.
That would give the assholes exactly what they want: the border closed, and then they can bitch and whine about executive actions and overreach. Meanwhile Congress is let off the hook for not doing their job.
Put the focus clearly on Congress. They can pass that bill and the border will automatically be closed because of the restricted number of migrants it allows - we're already over that number. so as soon as that bill gets passed, the border IS closed.
They know this but they're pretending it's all on Biden instead of the intractable GOP in Congress.
