China, South Korea Comment on U.S. Anti-Dumping Probes
China's Ministry of Commerce said Saturday that it's "deeply concerned" over one U.S. anti-dumping investigation, while South Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said it will urge the U.S. to be fair in another.
The Chinese ministry said the U.S. investigation into Chinese-made wind-turbine parts is not conducive to new-energy cooperation between the two countries and hurts international efforts to combat climate change. It called on the U.S. to honor the pledge made by G-20 nations not to roll out any new protectionist measures and to "avoid taking actions that harm U.S.-China trade relations and the U.S.'s own interests."
The South Korean mininstry said in a statement that "through various channels, we plan to request the U.S. to conduct a fair and objective investigation" into allegations that Samsung Electronics Co. and LG Electronics Inc. sold their washing machines to U.S. customers at unfairly low prices. The U.S. Commerce Department announced the probe Friday; it was triggered by a complaint in December by Whirlpool Corp.
