Argentina: Strike paralyses Buenos Aires and other cities

A strike called by two of Argentina's biggest unions has paralysed much of Buenos Aires and other cities. Most trains and underground lines remained closed, flights were cancelled and there was little traffic in the streets of the capital.

This is the second big protest against the government of Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner in less than two weeks. Most unions are calling for a big rise in the minimum salary and for income tax bands to be adjusted accordingly.

The unions are asking for lower income taxes, and there is general discontentment about the economy. There are also concerns about rising crime and corruption.

Economist Alan Cibils told the BBC Mundo the underlying problem was high inflation. Some economists say annual inflation in Argentina is at 24%, much higher than the official 10% figure.

3. I recently heard

that when Argentina went bankrupt in the early '00's, all but 7% of the debt reached an agreement.

Now, the other 7% (banksters) are suing Argentina in US Courts for a complete 100% return of their money since their Treasury has the funds. This was a month or two ago.

Also, I've read that 'new money' was coming into Argentina thus increasing inflation. And Argentina was trying to put limits on incoming money.

But I'm on the side of the strikers as always. The workers are always the ones who get stabbed in the back when the economy starts to implode/explode.

Argentinians remember how awful it was just a short 10 years ago. It was HORRIBLE!
