Breaking News: Nancy Pelosi announces she will remain as Democratic leader

Just confirmed by Chuck Todd on MSNBC.

Nancy Pelosi to remain Democratic leader

By JOHN BRESNAHAN and SEUNG MIN KIM | 11/14/12 9:30 AM EST

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi will remain in charge of the Democratic Caucus for the 113th Congress, the California Democrat announced on Wednesday morning.

Pelosi revealed her decision before a room full of cheering Democrats, many of whom had privately lobbied her in recent days to stay put.

“The message is clear from the American people,” Pelosi told an excited Democratic Caucus, according to sources in the room. “They want us to work together to get things done. And that’s what these folks are here to do. Just like all of you. We may not have the gavel, but as I can see in this room, we have the unity.”

The decision by the California Democrat to stay on - after a week of growing speculation over her political future - freezes in place the House Democratic leadership for another two years.

I'll get more actve in 2014 IF the elected Democrats stand firm now, keeping SS cuts 'off the table,' entirely. If we can't accomplish that while 'we' control the Presidency & the Senate (and have Pelosi's leadership at the helm of the minority in the House), what would a few more seats really accomplish?

I'm not calling for anythng radical; I just want to see my President, with the support of Pelosi & Reid, stand firm for a core Democratic program, one which contributes nothing to the Deficit.

If Democrats cut Social Security now, I will switch my affiliation to Independent, because the D's will have shown that they stand for nothing.

rah, rah. I guess I should fall in line with the room full of cheering democrats and Peloisiphiles on this site and you'll have to forgive if I don't. I just didn't find her back bone that sturdy in our Presidents first term. Harry Reid didn't find a voice until late in the election cycle. I know I'll catch hell for my sentiments, but this is the way it was for me.

I will always have trouble with Nancy because of that statement.

The Constitution is never 'off the table'.
