Denver’s Channel 7 “mortified” over Petraeus story goof
Source: Denver Post
Monday during the 5 p.m. newscast, Denver ABC affiliate KMGH-Channel 7 committed what news director Jeff Harris called an embarrassing mistake and one thats too risque to repeat in a family newspaper.
The station showed a digitally redesigned graphic of the cover of the Petraeus biography, All In. The title was, um, rewritten.
An editor grabbed the wrong image online, Harris said. The fake image was not created locally. The reaction from viewers was minimal (my wife called me), but took off in the blogosphere. Harris declined to discuss whether disciplinary actions had been or might be taken, except to say, when we make mistakes we take them seriously.

(81,466 posts)I laughed SO loudly when I saw this!!! OMG! Glad you're here! Share the mirth! Lots of fun going on these days, especially on the heels of a successful election! But let's not get complacent, or forget that we have to build upon our winnings, and make sure we do even BETTER in 2014 and 2016!

(200 posts)Yea I has been a whirlwind, to be sure. As an Iowan, I voted for Obama and am proud to have him as our President. This scandal with Petraeus is a sad thing for sure; however, the conspiracy of crap that they just showed being aired on Fox News is despicable. Let's destroy hate!!!!! Thanks for the response-- it's a pleasure to be here.

(39,321 posts)Was it filmed by the culprit?
Vinnie From Indy
(10,820 posts)The film looks to be shot on a cell phone which might indicate that someone was waiting for this to occur before the "accident" happened.
Cheers!

(6,810 posts)upload the recorded footage to YouTube directly from the device, so used their cellphone to record the recording and upload that instead.
flamingdem
(39,321 posts)If not youtube?
If not.. then it is suspicious
DRoseDARs
(6,810 posts)upload the footage to the Internet. VCRs generally can't connect to the Internet, and not everyone has home DSL/cable/satellite Internet connections. Their cellphones might be their only online connection. If that's the case, they could simply replay the recorded footage, record it on their cellphone, then upload that recording.
Which is what I said in the post you just responded to. Stop being daft and tinfoil-y.

(39,321 posts)The only way your scenario works is if the person was previously informed. Usually news broadcasts do not play more than once, so thus i am sure you can calculate the issue involved.
Or do you think this person always records the local news?
Doubtful..
DRoseDARs
(6,810 posts)And then watch that recorded footage when they have the time to do so? And then can replay that footage they recorded to watch later if they see something they want to see again? And don't need the broadcaster to rebroadcast the original footage since the person recorded it at home for later viewing in the first place? You don't do this, therefore no one does this? My mom has done this Every. Single. Day. for years.
flamingdem
(39,321 posts)and I already made this point.. who records the local news?!
DRoseDARs
(6,810 posts)Again with your "I don't do that, therefore no one does that." argument. This is passing "farcical" and entering into "sad" territory.
flamingdem
(39,321 posts)There are those who record the local news and those who would never do such a thing.
This is a case of the latter.
Marrah_G
(28,581 posts)Heck yes, if I caught that I would definitely record and up on facebook it would go...lol
WinniSkipper
(363 posts)So anyone watching the news who saw it just needs to rewind. And if you press "record" it captures the buffer.
flamingdem
(39,321 posts)noticed that.. either on purpose because they were the culprit or from another recorded source

(28,581 posts)You hit pause... most cable/satellite providers use DVRs now... then you get your phone camera all set, rewind the show a minute or so, hit play and start recording on your phone.

(28,581 posts)If you catch something, even if it goes by pretty quick, you can pause, grab your phone, turn the camera on, rewind a few seconds, hit play and capture it on a camera or phone.

Unfortunately, I'd bet someone's head has to roll. Thus "cleansing" the station.
